To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, CHARLES E. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Lawton, in the county of Comanche and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ore-Separators, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in ore separators and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with metals such as gold, silver and the like; and'it is an object of the invention to provide novel and improved means whereby the values maybe quickly and efficiently separated from auriferous or other material. 7
It is also an object of the invention to provide a separator of this character including novel and improved means whereby the value containing material is initially subjected to a thorough agitation to effect a separation of the values and whereby the heavier concentrates resulting from this initi al. operation are subjected to a further agitation to effect a separation of the remaining values carried thereby.
The invention also has for an object to employ a trap of novel and improved con struction and positioned as desired for collecting the values or concentrates as the same pass thereover.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved separator of this general character including a plurality of coacting disks mounted for vibratory movement for agitating the value bearingmaterial discharged thereon and provided with means whereby the separated values may be collected. It is also an object of the invention to employ in connection with said disks novel and improved means movable independently thereof for further agitating the value bearing material.
The invention consists n the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved separator whereby certain important advantages are attained andthe device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will. be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section of the vibrating mechanism constructed in accordance with the present embodiment ofmy invention;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken through one of the concentrating members as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and also illustrating a trapping device as herein embodied;

As herein disclosed, 5 L denotes a hopper adapted to receive heavy material or concentrates and has leading therefrom the chutes 56 discharging upon the pans 57 coacting with the disks 58, and said material is then carried to the pans 57 carried by the disks 60 arranged at a predetermined point below the disks 58, hereinbefore referred to. As the construction and mounting of each of the pans 5'? and disks 58 are substantially identical, it is thought that a description of one will suffice for the purpose of disclosure.
61 denotes an annular trough having in communication therewith a chute 62 delivering to a pan 57 adjacent thereto or serving as a discharge for the waste or refuse material. The trough 61 also serves as a mounting for a disk 58 which is substan tially concave and having its lower central portion provided with the discharge opening 63 defined by a depending boss 64 with which coacts a trapping device T. The pan 57 is also concave and fits within the disk 58 and has its central lower portion provided with a discharge opening 65 defined by a depending flange 66 which extends through the opening 63 of the disk 58 and within the boss 64.
As herein disclosed a trapping device T is arranged beneath each of the depending bosses til, the bore of said boss (it being under control of the slide valve 38. As herein embodied, the boss 6-4: is provided with the outstanding arm 39 provided with the depending perforate ears lO through which a threaded bolt 41 is directed, said bolt l1 havingthreaded thereon a nut s2 positioned between the perforate ears and the face of the nut 42 coacting with the arm to prevent rotation thereof. The outer end of the bolt 41 is provided with a fixed collar 43 positioned between the depending perforate ears lldepending from the outer end of the arms 45 extending from the slide valve 88 and through which the bolt -11 is freely directed. The outer-end of the .bolt s1 is provided with an operating member 46, whereby it will be perceived that upon axial rotation being imparted to the bolt t1, the slide valve 38 may be adjusted into either open or closed position relative to the bore I of the boss (is. The boss 6% is also provided with atlange- 47 with which are operatively engaged the tie rods ,48 adapted for detachable engagement with the base portion 49, of the cylindrical container 50 comprised in my improved trapping device T.
snugly fitting within the container 50 is a head 51 mounted upon the rod 52 threaded through the base 4:9 of the container50 and provided at its lower end with an operating member 53 whereby it will be perceived that the position of the head 51 may be vertically adjusted.
Normally the head 51 is positioned slightly below the lower end of the boss (ll and as the values are collected therein, tl e head 51 is adjusted downwardly and said adjustments are continued until the container' 50 issubstantially filled, whereupon the container 50 is-removed and properly emptied and then replaced, or if desired, a second container may be employed.

As herein disclosed, the pan 3? in its upper surface is provided with a lining or perforate fabric 73 preferably coarse nirc gauze. and over which is placed a layer Tl of soft porous fabric preferably cloth matting, whereby it will be perceived that the fine flour gold or other fine metals may percolate into the fiber of the same. .llosl' of the flour gold or fine me als will pass through the fabric H and through the perforate fabric 73 and then down the walls of the pan 5? so that the values will pass through the opening 3 into the trapping device T. If desired. the pan 5'? may be made of copper metal and coated with quicksilver so as to act in aimilgamaiion lo a perfect and successful operation. lt is preferred that the marginal portions of the fabric 7% be protected by the annular member 75 preferably of heavy screen wire and which also serves to maintain the fabric in applied position.
It will be readily understood that when a complete clean-up is desired. the pan 57. the trapping device T and the fabrics T and 74 may be all separately removed and a clean duplicate substituted so that no delay may be afforded during the operation of the entire machine.
It is to be understood that a fresh supply of water is delivered to the material at the time it enters the hopper :"iland it will be perceived that the lighter material will pass over the top of the pan 5? into the annular trough (31 for a purpose which is believed to be self-evident.

The upper extremity of the vertical sha ft 7 is operativcly engaged, as at 79. with a horizontally disposed shaft 80 rotatably supported by the upper portion of the frame F and the shaft 80 is operatively engaged. as at 81, with a second shaft 82 which in turn is operatively engaged, as at 82L with the shaft 9% carried by the lower portion of the machine, said shaft 8+ being adapl l to be coupled as indicated at 3. with :uiv suitable source of power. By having the cover member disk 87 of a less diameter as just described, it will. be at once self-evident that an annular open ing is alforded: for the passage or discharge: of the lighter or waste material. As herein disclosed, the cover member 87' is supported in applied position through. the medium of the arms 89 radiating there from and operatively engaged'with the upstanding side board 90 secured to the outer flange of the annular trough 61.
It is to be noted that each of the shafts 77 extends within the compartment afforded. by the annular flange 66 and the portlon of? said shafts 77 within said chamber isv pro-- vided with a series of spirally arranged out-- standing fingers 91 which serve as a means: for agitating the value containing material collected therein.
From. the foregoing description, it is; thought to be obvious that a separator constructed in accordance with my lnvention. is of an extremely simple and comparativelyinexpensive nature and is particularlywell adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which itm'ay be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason It do not wish to be understood as. limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice, except as hereinafter claimed.

A machine for separating ore comprising an annular trough mounted for vibratory movement and having a discharge chute leading therefrom, a substantially concave disk supported by the annular "trough and surrounded thereby and provided in its lower central portion with a discharge opening, a depending boss carried by the disk and defining said discharge opening, a collecting container detachably engaged with the lower end portion of the boss, agitating means co-acting with the disk and extending within the boss depending therefrom, a cover member supported by thetrough and overlying the disk, and an upstanding hopper carried by the cover member and discharging within the disk at the axial center thereof, said cover member being flat and arranged substantially at right angles to the axial center of the disk.

A machine for separating ore comprising an annular trough mounted for vibratory movement and having a discharge chute leading therefrom, a substantially concave disk supported by the annular trough and surrounded thereby and provided in its lower central portion with a dis charge opening, a depending boss carried by the disk and defining said discharge openin a collecting container detachably engaged with the lower end portion of the boss, agitating means co-acting with the disk and extending within the boss depending therefrom, aslide valve co-acting with the depending box for controlling travel therethrough, and means carried by the boss for imparting endwise movement to the valve.
