ALBERT KARTZ, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT iN CANE-GUNS.
Specification describing certain Improvements in (lane-Guns, invented by ALBERT KARUTZ, of Brooklyn, in the county ofKings' and State ot' N ew York.
My invention relates to improvements in cane-guns; a-nd it consists of a novel arrangement ot' a cranked level' and catch-spring with the needle, whereby the said lever is employed both to retract the needle and to trip the catolispring to allow the needle to fire the cartridge.
Figure l is a longitudinal section ot' my improved eane-gun. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, with the plate to which the catch-spring and retractin g and tripping leverare attached; and Fig. 3 is a plan ot' the lever and spring and a i detached piece ot' the barrel to which they are attached. y
`Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A is the needle 5 B, the spring for thrusting it forward against the cartridge C; l), the catch-spring for holding the needle back; and E is the cranked lever for drawing the spindle back to be caught and held by the spring D, also for tripping said spindle to allow it to be thrown forward. This lever is pivotcd to the receiver at F, so that the long arm lies in a slot in said receiver, which it completely fills, while the short arms G, which are provided with a toe, H, extend inward and bear against a kind of cup-shaped T-head, I, on the rear end of the needle, against which they act to force the needle back for setting ready to shoot. The spring is fastened to the receiver near the front end of the needle, so that near the rear end, where the catch K is, it bears against a collar, L, so as to engage it as soon as said collar passes beyond said. catch in moving backward, and beyond thisl catch D the spring is prolonged, as shown at M, so that when thecrank-lever is pulled outward the short arms G come in contact with the prolongation M ot' spring D and force it away from collar L, so as to disengage the needle and let it iiy forward. The said lever E is raised by thrusting the linger-nail under the beveled point N,where a suficient space is left for the purpose. The cartridge-chain ber is in the end O of a scetioml, of the tubular cane, which is reduced, and lits in the socket of the upper section, and is secured"bywtlhe'` catch-springs R, the ends ot' which project at S sntciently to be pressed in to disengage the catches which engage with internal notchesin the chamber of the upper section to hold the two sections together.
This arrangement of the barrel allows ot' loading at the breech by disconnecting the two sections and putting the cartridge in the end of O, ai'ter which they are connected again.
The cranked lever E and spring D are attached to a plate, U, which is detaehably litted in a slot in the receiver to facilitate access to the interior.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Bat-- ent- The combination of thc cranked lever E, spring D, and needle A, substantially in the manner described.
ALBERT KARUTZ. Witnesses:
