Description

L, COTTON. CULTIVATOR ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED DEC-29. I916.
Patented Jan.22,1918.
INVENTOR I ATTORNEY WITNESSES CULTIVATOB. ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
rateiitea ran. as, rare;
ApplicationfiledDecember 29, 1916. SeriaINo. 139,643.
To all whom'z'tmag concern:
Be it known that I, Loom Co'r'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holdenville,in the county of Hughes and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cultivator Attachments, of which the following is'a specification.
This invention relates to cotton plows or cultivators and it has for its object to produce a simple and improved attachment which may be readily applied to the crosshead 01 the cultivator for the purpose :of
throwing the loose dirt in the direction of v the plants simultaneously with-the plowing operation; said device being so constructed that it may be quickly and conveniently detached when its presence is not required.
A further object of the invention is to simplify and improve the construction of the attachment including the means whereby the said attachment may be adjusted to the most'advantageous working position.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature or the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination oi parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the clalms.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a crosshead and a portion of the beam of a cultivator to which the invention has been applied.
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation showmg the attachment disassembled from the crosshead. 2 0
' respect to the cllp C, the brace 23 having Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same.
Fig. A is a sectional view taken on the line l4 in Fig. 3.
Corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing are denoted by like characters of reference.
The improved attachment comprises a clip or fastening device C, a standard carrymg arm A adjustably connected therewith and an adjusting and connecting member consisting of a brace B.
The clip C includes top and bottom plates or members 15 and 16 each having slots 17 for the passage of the clamping bolts 18 whereby the clip is fastened on the crosshead D of a cultivator. Extending. upwardly through the top plate or member 15 is'a bolt 19, said bolt being positioned about midway between the bolts 18,. said bolt being surrounded by a rosette plate 20, thelatter being firmly secured on the upper face of the top member 15.
The standard carrying arm A is mounted pivotally on the bolt 19, and said arm is provided on its under face with a rosette 21 facing the rosette plate 20. The parts are assembled by means of a nut 21 which may be tightened against the upper face of the arm A, it being evident that by tightening the nut, the arm will be held securely against rotation above the axis of the bolt 19 by the interengaging rosette members 20 and 21.
23 is a brace consisting of a rod having at one end an eye 24 engaging one of the clamping bolts 18, at the lower end of the latter. The other end of the brace rod has a plurality of apertures 25 any one of which may be engaged with a bolt 26 that extends through the arm A. A standard 27 carrying a dirting blade or shovel of any well known construction is secured 011 the arm A by means of clips 28. It will be readily understood that the attachment herein described, including the standard 27 is auxiliary to the conventional standard carried by the crosshead, and which is shown at 29. The arm A may be made of any desired length so that the auxiliary standard will be supported any desired distance to the rearward of the conventional standard; it is also evident that longitudinal adjustment of the standard 27 with respect to the arm A may be readily efleoted by loosening the clips 28. By loosening the nut 21 on the bolt 19 the arm A carrying the auxiliary standard may be swung to any desired angular position with been previously disconnected from the arm A. When the desired adjustment has been obtained, the brace 23 is again connected with the arm A, thereby securing the standard carrying arm A very firmly in its adjusted position even it" the rosette members 20 and 21 should exhibit a tendency to slip after the tightening of the nut 22.
It will be seen that by the improved construction herein shown and described a device is provided whereby an axuiliarystandard may be easily and quickly mounted on the (-rosshead of a cultivator and whereby such standard may be very quickly adjusted 'tovarious angular positions, andwery s ec'urely retained in adjusted position, being thus rendered capable of resisting any strain to which it is liable to be subjected when in operation. a V i Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A cultivator attachment comprising a clip including top and bottom members and 2. A cultivator attachment comprising a clip including top and bottom members and clamping bolts connecting the same, a bolt extending upwardly from the top member intermediate the clamping bolts, a standard carrying arm pivoted on said upwardly extending belt for swinging movement in a horizontal plane, and means for securing the standard carrying arm in various adjusted positions, said means including a rosette member fixed on the upper face of the top member of the clip, surrounding the bolt, and a mating rosette portion formed on the under face of the standard carrying arm. 7
3. An attachment for cultivator crossheads comprising a clip having top and bottom members and clamping bolts connecting the same, a bolt extending upwardly from the top member, a standard carrying arm pivot-ally secured on said bolt, and a brace member having an eye pivotally engaging one of the clamping bolts, the other end of the brace member being adjustably connected with the standard carrying arm.
1n testimony whereof I ai'lix my sgnature.
LOCIA ooT'roN.
