Description

T. E. JANSON.
GEARING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 17, 1916.
Patented Jan. 15, 1918.

GEARING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 17, 1916. Serial No. 98,134.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE E. JANSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cortland, in the county of Cortland and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gearing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a gearing device, and more particularly to the class of gearing attachments for geared adjustable threading machines.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an attachment of this character wherein the geared adjustable threading machine is readily and conveniently operated with minimum exercise on the part of the user thereof and a constant motion will be imparted to the machine for the threading of the work with despatch.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an attachment of this character wherein the construction thereof is novel in form so that it can be readily applied to and removed from the thread cutting machine and when applied will require mlnimum power by the user for the successful working of the threading machine and avoids the use of a ratchet handle with resultant lost motion.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an attachment of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a geared adjustable threading device showing the attachment constructed in accordance with the invention applied, a portion of the geared threading device being broken away;
Fig. 2 is a top plan View;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the attachment on an enlarged scale, with the casing partly broken away;
Fig. -'l is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the attachment also on an enlarged scale.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates the work clamp; 13, the rotatable frame mounted thereon and having the cutter head C which, as usual, is formed at diametrically opposite points with handle sockets D for the engagement of handles therewith to permit the turning of the head 0 which carries radially disposed adjustable thread cutters E, the work clamp A being formed with an external gear F with which meshes a pinion G carried upon a turning shaft H, the latter being formed with a squared upper end I on which is mounted the gearing attachment hereinafter fully described. The gearing attachment comprises a gear closed oil retaining casing or jacket 5 preferably formed in two sections detachably fastened together by screws 6, the casing or jacket being formed with an extension 7 in which is fixed an anchoring pin 8 for detachable engagement in a hole 9 provided in one of the handle sockets D of the head C of the threading machine.
Arranged within the casing or jacket 5 is a rotatable gear 10 having a center spindle l1 journaled in the reinforced bearings 12 formed exteriorly on the sections of the said casing or jacket, and in this spindle 11 is provided a squared hole 13 for receiving the squared end I of the shaft H of the threading machine.
At one side of the gear 10 and within the casing or jacket 5 is a drive pinion 14 which meshes with the gear 10 and is formed with a stud pintle 15 which is journaled in the sections of the casing or jacket 5, one end of the pintle 15 being extended without the casing or jacket and is formed with a squared end 16 for receiving a hand crank 17 adapted to be manually turned for rotating the pinion 14 which imparts similar m0- tion to the gear 10, and this in turn operates the shaft H for driving the gearing of the threading machine.
It will be noted that the crank at the end engaged with the pintle 15 of the pinion Patented J an. 15, 1918.
crank 17 a continuous motion Will be imparted to the threading machine, and by reason of the gearing the said machine is operated with minimum exertion with: part of the user. I
From the foregoing description, take'nin connection with the accompanying drawing,
"the construction ahdoperation of the herein described gearing device willbe readily apparent and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: j
The combination With the driving spindle of a geared adjustable threading "machine ingpin adapted to be inserted in said hole,
a gear j ournaled interioriy of the jacket and havinga center socket for detachably receiving the drivingzspindle of the machine, and
a pinion Within the jacket and meshing with the gear and havinga -pint1e for the detachable connection ofahand crank thereln'testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
THEODORE ERNEST JANSON.
