To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BROMLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at 691 East 37th street, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Detachable Shoe-Tongue, of which the follow ing is a specification.
I am aware that heretofore detachable shoe tongues have been employed and so constructed as to be secured in a boot or shoe by th laces, by means of which the shoe is secured in place on the foot of the wearer. In carrying out my present invention the detachable shoe tongue made in accordance therewith is adapted to be connected in a boot or shoe in much the same manner as those to which reference has hereinbefor been made, and the present invention relates more particularly to the construction of the shoe tongue and the means associated therewith for a connection with the laces by which it is attached in a boot or shoe, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation of the attachment secured to the lower end of the shoe tongue by means of which with the laces employed the tongue is secured in position for use.
Referring to the drawing it will be seen that in carrying out this invention the shoe tongue made in accordance therewith preferably comprises a strip of lambskin or other similar material tanned with the wool thereon and with the wool cut or shorn to an approximate length of one half inch. The reverse side of the shoe tongue on which is the wool, is designated at 11 and the ob verse side is suitably tanned as indicated at 12. WVith this strip of lambskin or other similar material I employ a lacing attachment. This also comprises a strip of pliable leather 13 or other similar material, which conforms in outline to the lower end of the tongue, and is placed thereon so as to register therewith and connected to the tongue by double lines of stitching indicated at 14, 15, or by being glued or cemented thereto. The lacing attachment also includes strips 16 and 17 which are made to run longitudinally of the tongue and to pass through slots 18, 19, provided therefor in the lacing attachment and to be secured in position by the same lines of stitching by which the lacing attachment is secured to the tongue as is clearly indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing, or by the same adhesive material by which the strip 13 is connected thereto. In the use of this shoe tongue a lace 20 is threaded through the loops formed by the strips 16 and 17 and also through the lower eyelets in a boot or shoe in a customary manner and in order that the lower end of the tongue may conform in outline to the shoe, it may be curved or recessed at the lower end as indicated at 21. I have found that in the use of a shoe tongue constructed in accordance with my invention particularly in instances where it is necessary or desirable to place considerable strain upon the shoe laces that this may be done to properly protect the feet and support the ankles of the wearer without the inconvenience of feeling that the laces are drawn too tightly, and at the same time prevents the wrinkling of the parts of the boot or shoe under which the detachable tongue lies, making the same more smooth than in the use of an ordinary shoe tongue.
I claim as my invention:
1. A detachable shoe tongue comprising a strip of material, and a lacing attachment secured to the lower end thereof comprising straps running longitudinally of the shoe tongue and forming loops arranged to receive the shoe lace for securing the tongue in position on the shoe.
2. A detachable shoe tongue comprising a strip of material, a lacing attachment secured to the lower end thereof, said lacing attachment comprising a strip of material and straps running longitudinally of the shoe tongue and having their ends passed through slots in said last mentioned strip, and lines of stitching extending transversely of the tongue and securing said last men tioned strip and said straps to the first mentioned strip, said straps forming loops arranged to receive the shoe lace for securing said tongue in position on the shoe.
