Specification of Letters Patent.
CONVEYING AND CLEANING TABLE. i
Patented Jan., 15, 1913.
' Application filed ctober 30, 1916. Serial No. 128,431.
Referring more in detail to the drawings z- 1 designates a cleaningand grading table constructed according to my invention, comprising a frame 2, which may be made in lengths to accommodate a desired number of workmen, and having opposite side members 3h3", ends M', and supporting legs Mounted within the frame between the sides 33, and slightly below the top level thereof, are tables 6 6', each of which is of' `approximately one-half the length of the frame 2, and is removably mounted so that the tables may be interchanged as the work progresses.
Attached to the under side of each of the tables by journals 7 are axles 8 carrying rollers 9, whereby the tables are supported on tracks 10`10 that are carried by and project inwardly from the sides of and eX- tend throughout the length of the frame.
In order that the tables may be inter changed, the track 10, which comprises rails 11-11 and the tie rods 12, is pivotally mounted adjacent its outer end on brackets 13 that are attached to the side frame members 3--3 and is supported at its free end by the cross bar 14 of a crank 15, comprising side arms 16-16 and outturned bearing portions 17-17 ed in the side beams 3-3, the crank being provided, externally of the frame and at one side thereof, with a lever 18 whereby the crank 15 may be moved to raise the free end of the track 10 and support the samein horizontal position and in coextension with the track 10', or to lower the free end to a level with sub-tracks 19-19 that are supported in the frame below the track 10.
In order to retain the track 1() normally in horizontal position, I provide a support 20 for the lever 18, which is attached to the lower edge of the side rail 3, and so form the crank bar that when the lever is seated on the support 20 the cross bar 14 on which the track rests is positioned slightly back of the pivotal point of the crank, so that in lowering the track, the bar 14. must be moved back over the dead center posltion.
The track 19, which is located below the track 10',` comprises spaced rails 21--21 that are `ioined by the end tie rods 22-22, `and when in normal position rests on cross which are pivotally mountbars 2(323 that extend transversely between the side frames 3-3, and is acontinuation oi? theV track rails 179. which lare V pivotally mounted, and side arms`27-i-27/ which are [turned laterally at theirends to form 1bearing portions 2S- 2'S which are pivotally mounted 'in the sides "3-3 g said cranks being provided `at theexterior of the frame with levers 294429 that are `pivkotallv Aconnected at their ends a linkBO.
Also pivotallv Connected with 'thel lever 29 is a link `31 which extends to a lever32,pivolall)`7- n'iounted on the tramo side 3, so that by moving the lever. 82, the c'ank levers will be rocked on their pivotal mountingl to raise the track 19 lioinlits supports to a position substantially level with the track .10.
The track 10 comprises the side rails 10 preteably of angle iron construction and each hingedly mounted on the `fr 'amesides 3&3", so'that the. rails may lie in position to support the tables 6- 6 or maybe tilted outwardly on their ,hinged mounts topermit the passage of a table, that may be supported onv ,the track 19 therebetween when' the latter 'is raised by operationof the leyer 32.
In the present'devicel I prefer to cutaway a portion of the front frame 3 above'the level of the table G to permit the graded product to'be more easily removed from the Vtables after it hasbeen washed. 1 also prefer to form the ltables of spaced slats so that water or dirt removed from theplants may fall therebetween to lbeneath'theta-ble, in order that the plants may be kept Jfree Jfrom dii-t.
Assuming the parts to be soconstructed, in` using the device,V thetables G'--G" are raised to position on` the tracks 10--10. The uncleanedI celery vis iirst placed on'the table G 4where the roots and leaves may be removed andthe plantswaslied. "The table (3 Vis thenmoved along thewtrack '10 onto the'track 1'() tothe position previously oc- 'cupiedby the table ,6 which in themeantime has been moved to the track'19.
To lower the table 6 from the track 10 to track '19 Abelow the table'G, the operator moves the lever 1S to vrevolve the crankl in its mounting so that'the Icross bar i14 is lowered and Ythe jtrack inclined downwardly to the level of the track 19, permitting the table 6 to be lrolled fromthe ti'ack to position beneath the table 6'; The'tr'ack 10`is tlieirfaised lto normal horizontal position and locked by moving the lever 18 back to seat against the supporting ar1n20.
After' the tabler of cleaned kand trimmed celery has been moved onto the track 10 into position for the workmen who do the gradingQthetable G is raised onto the track 10/ to receive the` uncleaned product. `To raise the lower table to the initial position, the operator moves the Vlever 32 rear-V wardly to revolve the crank levers 25-25 in their mountings and thereby raise the track 19 withthe table thereon between the track rails S35-3;?, the Y latter xtilting outwardly f on the hinged mountings to permitthepas# sage oi' thetable therebetween, but allingf ,v back tocatch ythe table as soon as it has been ,suiicrently raised.
Bv so constructing the tableand tracks, `it
willvbe seen that the work otcleaning and asserting may beycarried-on byA separate groupsotl workmen without contusionfand without their changing positions, thereby greatly facilitating the work, moreover, the
, work may all be accomplished without sliding or moving the plants, along V.the table, and thereby eliminate all vfriction, which would be apt to cause bruising of the plants, Having tlnisdescribed my invention what ,I claimfas new, thereinand desireto vsecure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A conveying and cleaning table com- `prising ,separate coextensive track sections,
tables movable on said sections, and means for interchanging the tables on the separate sections.
2. A conveying and `cleaning table comprising separateeoextensive and independ-V en tly movable track sections, tables adapt-ed for support on the track sections, and means for shifting the tables from Vone to another yof said sections. i
3. A conveying and cleaning table comp rising a fra-me, upper andy lower-,tracks mounted in said'frame, and means for moving said tables along said tracks to linterchange their positions thereon.
4. A conveying and cleaning table'fcomprising a frame, upper tracksections and a lowertrack, tables adapted for rolling on said traeks,' and means for moving oneot' theaipper track sections to `cooperativerelation with the lower ti'aclgior the purpos A conveying and Cleaningtable comprising c oeXtensive track sections, one yieldd vbien its able `vertically to permit passage of a table between its rails from'beneath the track level, andanelevatorfor positioning a table on the yieldable track. Y t G. A conveying and cleaning table com- ,prising coextensive track sections, one yieldable vertically `to permit passageoi ya table betweenits rails from beneaththe track ,level, an elevator for positioning a itableon the yieldable track, and means for conducting a table from the other track section to said elevator.
7. ln a conveyingl and cleaning table, a track comprising rails having longitudinal, pivotal mounting, a track normally coeXtensive with the first named tra-ck, and having 'transverse pivotal mounting, tables movable on said tracks, and an elevator for receiving a table from one of the tracks and con- 10 ducting the same to the other track.
8. A conveying and cleaning table coniprising a frame, upper track sections forming a continuous track longitudinally of said frame, a lower track, tables movably mounted on said tracks, means for moving one of the upper track sections to coperatlve relation with the lower track, andmeans for raising the lower track to cooperative relation with the upper track section, for the purpose set forth. In testimony whereof I aiX 1ny signature.
