CHARLES A. SIGLER, or BLQOMFIELD, NEBRASKA.
To all "whom it may comm Be it known that I, CHARLES AySlGnER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bloomfield, in the county of Knox and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivator Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cultivator attachments, and more particularly to a disk adapted to be attached to a cultivator and to have its angle adjusted so as to suit circumstances.
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a disk and supporting means therefor which may be quickly and easily attached to the standard of a cultivator of ordinary construction.
A further object is to so construct the supporting means for the disk that the angle of the disk to the perpendicular may be quickly and easily adjusted as desired.
Further objects will appear from the detail description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of the disk and its mounting as applied, partly in section,
Fig. 2 is a front View of the same,
Fig. 3 is a top plan view Fig. 4 is a detail front view of the disk supporting block, and
Fig. 5 is a detail inner face view of the disk supporting arm.
The disk 1 is of the usual concavo-convex shape and is rotatably mounted in a hearing sleeve 2 formed integral with and at the lower end of, the supporting arm 3. Arm 3 is secured to the supporting block 4 by means of a screw-bolt 5 passed through the arm and threaded into the block. Arm 3 is provided, at its upper end and on its inner face, with a plurality of rearwardly extending teeth 6. These teeth are disposed radially from the axis of screw-bolt 5 and are equally spaced. The teeth 6 are adapted to engage into a plurality of recesses or serrations 7 formed in the front face of block 4 at the upper end thereof, and disposed radially to the aXis of screw-bolt 5. By securing the arm 3 tightly against block 4 with the teeth 6 in engagement with the recess 7, the arm and the block are securely locked against relative movement. By loosening the screw bolt 5 and disengaging the teeth 6 from the recesses 7, the arm 3 may be rotated about the bolt so as to adjust the disk 1 at the de Specification of Letters Patent. l Application filed October 11, 1916. sired angle, after which the arm 3 is moved inward so as to bring the teeth into engagement with the recesses, the bolt being tightened so as to lock the arm and block tightly together. By this means the angle of the disk may be quicklyand easily adjusted and the disk is firmly secured in adjustment.
The block 4: is provided with a longitudinally extending bore P which is adapted to receive the standard 8 of a cultivator of standard construction. A set-screw 9 is threaded into the block 1 at the back thereof, and is adapted to engage the standard 8 so as to secure the block on the same. By this means the disk 1 may be quickly and easily secured on the cultivator standard, or may be easily removed therefrom, as desired. By this means, I provide a disk which can be easily applied to a cultivator of standard construction, and which can be adjusted at any desired angle to the vertical to suit especial conditions.
The block 4 and arm 3 constitute a unit which may be quickly and easily applied to any cultivator of standard construction which employs cylindrical or rounded standards such as are now commonly used. By means of the set screw 9 the block may be readily secured in both vertical and rotary adjustment thus providing simple and efiicient means for regulating the depth of cut of the disk 1, and the angle of the disk to the direction of travel. In addition, the inclination of disk 1 to the vertical may be quickly and easily adjusted by means of screw 5 and the cooperating teeth and serrations of the block and arm. I am aware that various means have been proposed for supporting cultivator disks so as to permit adjustment of the cutting angle of the same but, in all of these devices it is necessary to specially construct the standard and provide special supporting means therefor. By my invention I provide a disk supporting unit which can be applied to any cultivator of standard construction having a cylindrical standard, this supportingunit being so constructed as to permit easy adjustment of the disk vertically on the standard, about the standard, and at an inclination to the vertical.
It will be evident that there can be certain changes made in the construction and arrangement of the different parts of my in vention without departing from the field and scope of the same, and I intend to include all such changes, as fall Within the scope of the appended claim in this application, in which a preferred form 'onlyof my invention is disclosed.
What I claim is:
In cultivator attachments, the combination With a cultivator standard, of a block adjustably secured on the standard, an arm mounted on the inner face of the block, a supporting v and securing bolt inserted through said arm at the approximate center thereof and threaded into said block, the block and the arm being provided in their Copies of this patent may be obtained for adjacent faces with cooperating teeth and recesses disposed radially of the bolt for securing the arm in rotary adjustment about the bolt, and a disk carried by said arm adjacent the lower end thereof and having its spindle disposed substantially at right angles to said bolt.
