Be it known that I, Maaoms C. Fonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver. in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Feed-Regulators for Concrete-Mixers, of which the following is a specification.
M y present invention pertains to feed regulators for concrete mixers and it has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive and easily operated organized mechanism for properly mixing cement with gravel. broken stone or the like, and one which requires but little attention on the part of the operator and which in proportion to its size is possessed of large capacity.
lhe invention in all of its details will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the machine embodying the feed regulating mechanism constituting the best practical emhodiment of my invention that I have as yet devised.
Figs. 2 and 3 are elevations of the ends of the machine.
F ig. 4 is a longitudinal, vertical section of the machine.
Fig. 5 is a top plan View of the same.
Fig. (3 is a detail section, taken through the rotary elements for supplying the proper proportions of gravel and cement to the rotatable mixing cylinder.
Fig. 7 is a section taken through the rotary cement deliverer in the plane indicated by the line 7-7 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a detail longitudinal-vertical section taken in a plane at one side of the rotary gravel deliverer and showing the adjusting and adjustably fixing means complementary thereto.

lhe main frame 1 of the machine embodying my novel mechanism may be of any construction compatible with the purpose of the machine, and on said frame is fixed a hopper 2 in which gravel is placed manually or otherwise in the discretion of the party using the invention. Also fixed on the frame is a hopper 3 in which cement is Specification of Letters Patent.

placed by hand or in any other approved manner. It will also be noted that the main frame serves for the support of a water tank 5 which is for the sake of compactness disposed under the gravel hopper 2.
As best shown in Fig. 3, the gravel hopper is provided at one side of its discharge orifice with a fixed transversely-inclined wall 6. and opposed to the outer or free edge of said wall 6 is a door 7 for regulating or controlling the flow of gravel through the said discharge orifice. The said door 7 is hinged at its rear end to the hopper 2, and connected to and extending laterally from the door is a toothed bar 8 which is disposed and adiustable in an aperture 9 in one side wall of the hopper. Fig. 4-. and is designed to adjustably fix the door 7 with respect to the wall 6. for the purpose hereinbefore set forth. It will also be noted by reference to Fig. 4 that the forward or discharge portion of the hopper 2. which portion is numbered 5 is equipped with apendent hinged door 10 which is designed to guide the gravel into the buckets of the rotary gravel deliverer 11. said buckets being numbered 13. and is adapted by giving forwardlv to the pressure of the gravel to assure the supplv of an even stream of gravel to the buckets and in that way conduce to the successful operation of the machine. It will al o be no ed in this connection that incidental to the rotation of the deliverer 11 in the direction indicated by arrow in Fig. 4, under the pressure of the gravel. the door 10 will be op ned by the wall of each bucket 13. and will be permitted. after the passing of the same. to gravitate to an approximatelv closed position.
The rotary gravel deliverer is loosely mounted on a transverse shaft 12, journaled in the main frame. and fixed to said shaft is a hand lever 16. designed to cooperate with the segmental rack 17 that is fixed to the side of the deliverer 11, as best shown in Fig. 8.
At the opposite side of the gravel deliverer 11. with reference to the lever 16 and the rack 17, is located the rotary cement deliverer 14 of the machine, said deliverer it being best shown in Figs. 1. 6 and 7. By reference to the said figures it will be noted that the deliverer 14 is made up of a cylinder 40. fixed to the deliverer 11 and having longitudinal apertures 41 in its circular Wall, radial walls 4:2 fixed to the said cir cular wait at thcylirider and e'rtending'in wardly therefrom, each at one side'otone' opening il, end walls4-5 fixed on the shaft 12 and loosely arranged in the circular wall of the cylinder 40, see Fig. 6; and radially-'- disposed walls 44 fixed at their ends in the" disposed in parallel relation-- to the wall of the cylinder 40. By adjusting the lever 16,
the walls 44 may be moved toward olflfromthe walls 42 to diminishor increase the ca pacity of the buckets in the cement del1verer 14-, and by placingsaid lever'16 inen-' gagement with the rack 17-, the said walls set may be adjustably fixed in the positions in which they are placed. In-this way the portions of cement fed" by the d'eliverer' 14 when rotated by the gravitation of cementfrom the hopper 3 may be nicely regulated.-
Under' the deliverers 11 and 14 is a receptacle 18 to which theoravel' and cement are delivered and in which they are first,
co1n1ningled,anclfrom said receptacle 18 the commingled substances pass through a chute 19 to the receiving end of a rotary mixing cylinder 20, which cylinder is preferably tapered toward its receiving end and'may if desired be belled so as to; prevent the mixturepassing too freely from, its comparawith an exterior spur gear 28, with which is intermeshed a spur gear 29, Fig. It, on a shaft 30, equipped with a pulley 31 that; is designed to be connected through a band- 32 with a motor (not shown). Interiorly the ,cylinder 20 is provided with mixing blades 23 which aredisposed longitudinally and are fixed to the cylinder wall. I y

Vith the water supply pipe 24 ar ranged as shown relatively to the cylinder 20, it will be manifest that inl a portionof the cylinder the gravel and cement will be mixed in a dry state, while in the remainder ofthe cylinder the mixture will be etfeeted; with the material in awet state.

The combination in feed regulating means, of a suitably supported shaft. rota-i table about its axis, a rotary deliverer loosely mounted on said shaft, means connectedwith the shaft anddrl i'verer and con struct'ed and arranged to adjustably fix each with respect to the other; and a rotary tielivcrer arranged alongside the first-named delivefer and comprising. a cylinder fixed to, the latter and having openings'in its circular wall and also having radial walls fixed to said circular wall, end walls fixed on the shaft and arranged in said circular 'wall, and radial walls fixed to said end walls and opposed to the" radial walls on the circular wall p v H 3. The combination in feed regulating 10 means, of a rotary deliverer, a second rotary deliverer arranged alongside the first-named deliverer and comprising a cylindrical portion having openings in its circular wall, means in the cylindrical portion and in com- 15 munication with said openings forming @opies of this patent may be obtained for buckets, said buckets being adjustable as to size, and means connected with said means in the cylindrical portion and extending loosely through and connected with the firstnamed deliverer and constructed and arranged to adjustably fix the size of the buckets in the second-named deliverer.
