To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES J. KLEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in tile county of Milwaukee and btate'of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful improvements in Electric Candles and the like, of which the following is a full,

clear, concise, and exact description, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in electric candles and the like.

The invention has among its objects to provide a simplified and comparatively inexpensive electric fitting for candles and the like, such fitting to be either of the switch or switchless type. I 4

A further object is to provide an electric fitting of the aforesaid character which may be readily and conveniently attached to a fixture and wired for. use.

A. still further object is to provide a simplified and neat appearing candle unit including a candle shell and support therefor. Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear.

The accompanyingv drawing illustrates one embodiment of the invention and the same will now be described, it being understood that the invention is susceptible of modifications falling within the scope of the appended claims.

The shell, however, is preferably -formed of resilient material whereby it may be sprung into locking en gagement with catches 9 on the cap and also preferably formed of insulating material whereby the use of special interior insula' tion therefor will be rendered unnecessary.

Next considering the electric fitting, the same in brief, comprises a single set of lamp soc (et parts and means of any exceedingly simple character to adapt such candle or the like. The fitting, as illustrated, is of the switch type, being equipped with a switch. mechanism arranged within the base 10 and provided with

However. as will be apparent. the arrangement of the parts just described is equally well adapted to a switchless fitting.

More specifically describing the fitting,

Briefly described, this switch mechanism, which is fixed to the under side of the base section 10*, includes a recip-rocable hill and valley cam mem-' ber 21 acting upon an oscillating contactor to make and'b'reak circuit between

28 and 29 are passed through the former and threaded into the latter. These screws, as will be observed fromFig. 2, also extend through both sections of the base and thereby further serve to secure said base sections together. As will be observed from Figs. 5 and 6, the plate 27 and extremities of terminal extensions 13 and .14 overlie other conductingparts and for separation thereof an insulating disk 30 is provided. An insulating disk 31 is also inserted in the screw shell-to secure the center terminal in spaced relation with said shell and a dished disk 32 is attached to the base 10 to provide a lininc; for the cap 7. Further insulation of the fitting is unnecessary where the candle shell is of insulating material but the fitting may be readily insulated through its length if desired by a simple fiber sleeve.

Thus is provided a simple, unitary and inexpensive fitting which is applicable to prac tically any candle fixture and susceptible of quick and easy in 'allation' anda complete candle having the addedadvan'tage of a simple, neat and inexpensive candle shell and support combined with the fitting into uni ary form.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

v 1. The combination with a candle shell, of a unitary. lamp socket fitting therefor, comprising a supporting base provided with a plurality of terminals, a screw shell terminal, a center terminal and separate 'conducting brackets supporting said screw shell and center terminals uponand in a spaced relation with said base for rendering said fitting coextensive with said shell, each of said brackets affording a direct electrical connection between the terminal supported 1ghereby and one of-said terminals of said ase.

2.,The combination with a candle'shell, of a supporting cap fitting the lower end of said shell and a unitary and coextensive lamp socket fitting for said shell including a combined supporting and terminal base restin within and n orted b Y said ca a: 0P a lockable within said cap and serving when.

The combination with a candle shell, of a supporting cap fitting the lower end of said shell, said shell and cap having means to releasably secure the same together and a unitary lamp socket fitting for said shell comprising a combined terminal base and switch resting withinjandsupported by said cap, lamp. terminals and conducting and spacing connections between said lamp terminals and said combined terminal base and switch to support the formeradjacent to the open end of said shell. 7

4. As an article of manufacture, a unitary lamp socket fitting for candles and the like, comprising a supporting base provided with a plurality of terminals, :1 screw'she'll terlninal, a center terminal and separate con ducting brackets supporting saidscrew shell and center terminals upon and in a. relation with said base for given external longitudinal --dimensions of the fitting, each of said brackets affording a direct electrical connection between the terminal supported thereby and one of said terminals of said said base, a center terminal within said shell,

a terminal extension from said base carryi-ng and independently supporting center terminal and. means centering said terminal within said shell.

6. As an article of manufacture, a unitary lamp socket fitting for candles and the like, comprising a transversely divided terminal vbase, a switch mechanism. mounted between the parts of said base, a plurality of terminal extensions fixed to said base and a screw shell and ccnterterminal carried by said terminal extensions and spaced thereby from said base and the inclosed switch mechanism.
