WILLIAM BAUCH, OLE BLUE ISLAND, ILLINOIS.
GAME-BOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
- Patented J an. 8. 19 18.
Applicationfiled April 13, 1917. Serial No. 161,822.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VILLIAM BAUCH, a citizen of the United-States, residing at Blue Island, in the county of Cook and State of 7 Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in game boards whereon a variety of games similar to those played on bowling alleys may be played. One feature of the invention consists in providing a board on one end of which a plurality of ten pins may be arranged which the player is required to knock down with one or more balls started toward said pins from the opposite end of the board. A manually controlled ball guide is pivotally arranged at the starting end of the board and by the skilful manipulation of said ball guide a player may contrive to knock down a maximum number of pins with a minimum number of balls or shots.
More specifically the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved game board.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a cross section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My board comprises a box having the bottom 1, sides 2 and front and rear ends 3, 4. A partition 5 spaced away from the rear end 4 connects the sides 2 and forms a pin trough 6. A partition 7 spaced away from the front end 3 connects the sides 2, 2 and rises to a height substantially above said sides and supports one end of the inclined board 8 which slopes toward the partition 5 and rests at its rear end upon a reversely inclined pit formed of two laterally sloping members 9 which connect the said partition 5 with the front partition 7. Lateral apertures 10, 11 are formed in opposite sides of the said partition 7 to permit passage of the balls 12 which are used to knock downhor bowl over the pins 13.
To the upper end of theboard 8 avbearing block 14 is secured by a pin 15, said pin pivotally carrying the segmental ball guide 16 which rotates upon the said bearmg block 14 and which is formed with the operating handle 17 and which carries a plurality of pins 18 spaced apart a distance suflicient to permit passage therebetween of the said balls 12. The ball guide, further, is formed with the peripheral ridge 19, which serves as a guard for the balls 12, and with the concave lip 20. The game is played as follows. A number of ten pins are arranged upon the foot of the board 8. The operator now controls the ball guide by meansof its handle 17. He places a ball 12 upon the ball guide between the ridge 19 and the pins 18 and then maneuvers the ball guide upon its pivot to direct the ball 12 in a manner to cause it to strike the maximum number of pins 13. The accuracy of a shot is dependent almost entirely upon the skill of the operator or player in maneuvering the ball guide to start the ball 12 true. Usually one point is counted by a player for each ten pin he knocks down and the player first accumulating a predetermined number of points wins the game. When the ball 12 strikes the pins 13, or previous to that time, it may run into the pit and be conducted through gravity back to the front end of the board. The pins 13 knocked down may fall into the pin trough 6 provided to receive them and from which they are readily removed when it is desired to set them up again.
What is claimed is 1. In a game board, a box, a pin trough formed at the rear end of said box and disposed transversely thereof, a pit sloping from said pin trough to the front end of said box, a board arranged above said pit and sloping from the front end of said box toward said pin trough and resting at its lower end upon said pit, said board being adapted to carry a plurality of ten pins upon its lower end, a manually operable ball guide pivotally carried at the front end of said board, pins spaced apart, carried by said ball guide, and a perforated partition extending transversely of said box, said partition being spaced away from the front end of said box.
2. In a game board, a box, a pin trough formed at the rear end of said box, a pit said pit and sloping from the front end ofsaid box toward said pin trough and resting upon said pit, said board being adapted to carry a plurality of ten pins upon its lower end, a ball guide pivotally-carried at the front ends of said board and formed with a peripheral ridge, pins spaced apart, car- In testimony that claim the foregoing 15 as my own I have hereto aiiixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing W1tnesses.
