- To all whom t may concern Be it known that we, LUDWIG BERANEK and JOSEPH BERANEK, citizens of the 'nited States, and residents of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Window-Seats, of which ,the following is a specification.

Ourinvention relates to improvements inr window seats which are designedfor 'use in connectlon with windows to facilitate washing of the outer sides of the windows and to The object of our invention is the production of a window seat which will be of durable and economical construction, one which i may be readily and easily arranged in place or removed, and one which, when not in use, msg be folded into compact form.

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings; comprises a rectangular body or seat-forming portion proper 1. Coperating with the body 1 is a back rest 2 which is swingingly or foldably connected with the rearward edge of the said body as at 3. Coperating with said back rest are foldable brace rods 4, the same being provided intermediate their ends with joints 5 whereby said brace rods may be collapsed or folded upon themselves to per-` mit of the back rest being folded to `position on the upper side 'of body 1 when the device is not in use. Thus it will be seen that when the device is in folded position the same will occupy very little space for storage'or transortation. By the construction as set forth it will be seen that when in use. the same will be locked against relative outward movement through engagement of tbe hook members 8 with'tthe inner edge of the inner window sill. Thus it will be seen that the device will be securely fastened to the window frame. the

We, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construct-ion set forth, but desire to avail ourselves ofl such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.

Having described our invention what we'l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is:

A window seat comprising a body; means on said body for engagement with a window sill to secure the same thereto, said means comprising a pair of hook members mounted on said body for sliding adjustment to embrace the inner edge of a window sill; elongated sockets in saidbody in which the rearward ends of said hook members are slidably mounted. eaclrof said sockets being formed of a shallo-w groove provided in the upper side of said body; a plate covering the upper side of said groove and extending forwardly beyond the forward edge of said body: a second plate secured to said body and extending edge thereof below and spaced from said forward end portion of said first mentioned plate: said forward end portions of said plates having alining openings and the rearward end portions of said hook members having spaced openings adapted for'registration with said first mentioned openings: and means adapted for engagement with said openings to lock said hook members in positions of sliding adjustment, substantially as described.
