vertical partition 3 being on the high pressure side of the partition 2` and separating the valve chambers for the hot and cold water from each other. On top of the valve are the two inlet openings 4 and 5, one of which is intended to supply hot water and the other cold water. Below the vertical casing is the outlet opening 6 which serves as a drain for both of the valves. At one end the valve casing `is closed by the heads 7 and 8 and at the other end by two other heads, one of which is shown inv Fig. 1 at 9. At the left hand side in Fig. 1 the valve casing is provided with a seat 10, with which engages the flange 11 on the head 8, which head has integral therewith the cylinder or dash pot 12. This head has an opening therein atV 13 to receive the valve stem 14. At the forward end of the head are provided the guides 15 and` 16, between which is adapted to slidev the cross head 17 which is connected to the forward end of the valve .the .section vbeing taken on .the :line y stem 14.` A pin '18 engages withthe cross head la'nd ypasses between the'guides by v,which the -cross head is held .against turning and .a :set screw l19is yprovided by :which the Cross Lhead is fastened to the vfalv-eistem.
On the forward end of lthe cross head is a pairof lugs 20 and-21betweenwhich is mounted an antifriction roller22. 1 1 y:On thelfofrward endofthe guides 15.a1nd .16. are provided `lugs x23 and 2,4' 'between which is mounted .the shaft ;50 on which are the handle .25 and the ratchet cam plate 26. The handle 25 carries the projectionl that engages the camplate and causes-,it to' turn-whenthe 'handle is lifted. The cam surface 27 .on this platejengages with :the antifriction roller .20, and when the `handle is raised from Lthe posit-ion shown in Eig. il, the :cam will react lagainst the roller and force it and ,the piston 4stemto `thevright.

The head is recessed at 30 to form a guide for the end of the valve stem. Inside of the valve casing is provided a seat 31 for the valve 32, which valve isintegral with the valve stem. The valve stem is also provided with a piston 33 that engages with the cylinder 12 and forms a dash pot therewith. This piston is provided with a small opening 34 therethrough, which opening is normally closed by the semi-circular spring 37 fastened to the piston at 38. y
Through the head of the valve casing is provided a passage way 35 which connects the forward end of the cylinder 12 with the interior of the valve chamber. The size of this opening in the passage way is controlled by the needle valve 36 mounted in the head of the valve casing and making threaded engagement therewith so that it Vcan be screwed in or out to change the sizeA of the opening in the passage way 35.

The operation of my device is as follows: When the valve casing is connected up to the water supply the pressure of the water will force the valve 32 forward onto its seat and shut off the flow of water into the chamber 40. When it is desired to admit water, the handle 25 will be raised as far as it is desired causing the valve 32 and the piston 33 to move to the right. This will permit water to flow past the valve and the water will fill the cylinder 12 and exert sufficient pressure to lift the valve 37 and fill the chamber between the cylinder 12 and piston 33, it being understood that the spring 37 is very light and does not have much resistance. lVhen it is desired to close the valve the pawl 28 will be lifted and the pressure on the valve 32 will force the valve i' and the valve stem 14 forward, In moving forward, however, the piston 33 must force the water that has accumulated between it and the cylinder 12 out through the passage way 35 which has been partially throttled by the needle valve 36. The water will slowly pass out through the passage way 35v andv will cause the valve 32 to gradually seat itself, thus preventing it from closing suddenly and with a jar.
To provide for the simultaneous lifting of the pawls 28 I provide the yoke 41 having pins 42 thereon which engage with the pawls28 bywhich they may be simultane* ously lifted.

The combination of a valve casing, a partition therein, a valve seat on one side of said partition, a valve adapted to seat itself on said seat, a valve stem projecting from either side of said valve, guidesr at each end of said casing to guide said valve stem in a straight line movement, a piston on said valve stem, a cylinder. having an open end and a closed end in said casing, said piston being adaptedvto slide in said cylinder, a by-pass connecting the closed end of said cylinder with said casing, an opening through said piston, a spring pressed valve on said piston, closing said opening when the piston moves in one direction, guides on the outside of said casing, .a cross head mounted to slidebetween said guides, said cross head being fastened to the end of said valve stem, an anti-friction roller mounted on said cross head, bearings on the outer ends of said guides, a cam mounted between said guides, said cam being adapted to rest on said anti-friction roller and openl said valve on the rotation thereof, a handle mounted to rotate in said bearings and independently of said cam, said handlebeing adapted to engage said cam and rotate said cam, a ratchet provided on vthe periphery of said cam, a pawl mounted on said casing, said pawl being adapted to successively en;` gage the teeth of said `ratchet on the rotation of said cam. iV Y,
