If desired, the intermediate portion of the bar may be cut away to provide an, arcuate surface 30 as indicated in Fig. 5 to accommodate the upper portion of the base 2 and clapper box 6. From the foregoing it will be seen that the base member 2 may be securely clamped to the supporting bar at any point, thereby roughly adjusting the tool. The clapper box structure may be rotatably adjusted upon the base and then rigidly secured thereto, thereby adjusting the tool to the desired angle. The cutting tool is thereupon adjusted in the tool slot of the clapper tongue and rigidly secured by the set screws thereon for taking the desired depth'of out. It is apparent that, with the foregoing described improved tool holder, long-shanked planer tools and special side tools are unnecessary and short-length cutters may be employed more efliciently than in prior structures.
While I have described in considerable detail the preferred embodiment of my invention, I would have it understood that I will be limited only by the appended claims.
I claim as my invention: 1. A tool-holder having, in combination, a supporting shank; a base member slidable thereon and adapted to be rigidly secured thereto, said base member having a central opening, an annular T-slot concentric with said opening, and an insert holecommunificating with said T-slot; securing means comprising a pair of clamping jaws rigid with said base member and a clamping screw ;'a clapper box structure comprising a base portion having a transverse slot therein and a hole extending through the base portion and communicating with said T-s lot, a central pivot rigid with said base portion and seated in said central opening, and a clapper tongue tool-holder pivotally mounted in said transverse slot comprising a body portion having a tool slot, a rounded end portion opposite said pivotal mounting, and means for securing a tool in said tool slot; and means for rigidly securing said clapper box structure to said base member comprising a T-bolt insertible through said insert hole and having a flanged head adapted to underlie the walls of said T-slot and a body portion insertible through-said communicating hole and means for securing said bolt in said communicating hole.
A tool-holder having, a supporting shank, a base thereon and adapted to be thereto, securing means comprising clamping jaws rigid with said member and a clamping screw, and a clapper box structure comprising a base portion rotatably adjustable upon and rigidly secured to said base member and having a slot therein and a clapper tongue tool-holder ed in said slot, said clapper tongue having an arcuately rounded end portion and a tool slot, Y
3. A tool-holder having, in combination, a supporting shank having an offset portion, a base member slidable thereon and adapted to'be rigidly secured thereto, and a clapper box tool-holder rotatably adjustable upon and rigidly secured 'tosaid base member,
in combination, member slidable rigidly secured pivotally mountthe point of support of the tool lying approximately in the axis of the supporting shank.
4. A tool-holder having, in combination, a supporting shank having an intermediate transverse portion having an arcuate surface andan offset portion, a circular base member slidable thereon and adapted to be'rigidly secured thereto, and a circular clapper b'ox tool-holder rotatably adjustable upon and rigidly secured to said base member, the point of support of the tool lying approximately in the axis of thesupp'orting shank, the circular base member abutt'inga'gainst said arcuate surface. I
5. A tool-holder having, in combination, a rectangular shank, a rectangular socket member having'inclosing walls adapted to surround the shank, said socket member being split at one corner, ears on the socket member at opposite sides of the split, and a clamping screw for drawing the ears together and thus drawing all of the walls of the socket member into engagement with the shank to secure the socket-member in, adjusted position. I
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
WILLIAM S. ROBINSON.
