SANITARY CUSPIDOR.
Application filed May 2, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC N. MJLLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of Jefferson and State of Illinois, have inventeda new and useful Sanitary Guspidor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a simple and efficient cuspidor wherein the receiving receptacle is at all times completely drained. Another object is to so construct each of the parts that accumulation of mat ter in inaccessible parts is made impossible.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the descriptlon proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and 1n the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings, 1 designates an inwardly and upwardly converging annular support or base provided with an annular foot flange 2 having openings 3 for reception of screws l for securing the support to the floor. Integrally formed with said support 1 and depending interiorly thereof is a semispherical or bowl-shaped receiving receptacle 5 provided with a lower opening 6 for draining the contents thereof. An annular screw threaded spout 7 is formed on the recep tacle about the opening 6 for connection with a drain pipe (not shown).
A convex cover 8 for the receptacle is provided with a double diametered bore 10 adjacent to its edge for reception of a pivot screw 11 threaded downwardly into the upper edge of the base 1. The head of the screw 11 is uppermost to work within the upper larger portion of the bore 10, and a coil spring 12 surrounds the screw within the upper larger portion of the bore and is confined between the head Specification of Letters Patent.

of the screw and the shoulder of said bore, thereby pressing the corresponding portion of the cover downwardly onto the base. The spring is housed within the bore underneath the head of the screw, so as to be protected thereby. The cover is further provided with an upstanding projection 10 opposite to the pivot for facilitating the removal of the cover by the foot to gain access to the receptacle.
The cover has a beveled. annular depending flange 11 to fit within the mouth of the receptacle to prevent accidental displacement of the cover. The coil spring 12 between the head of the screw 9 and the cover allows for sufficient raising of the cover to free the flange 11 from engagement with the receptacle when it is desired to use thereceptacle.
Particular attention is called to the fact that the cover 8 is adapted for bodily movement upwardly parallel with the vertical axis of the receptacle 5 as well as pivotal movement transverse to the vertical axis thereof to one side. The bodily movement disengages the flange 11' and the pivoted movement permits access to the receptacle.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A cuspidor comprising an annular base and receptacle depending therein, a cover seating on the base and having a beveled portion fitting within the receptacle, said cover having a double diameterod bore adjacent to its edge with the larger portion uppermost, a pivot member extending downwardly through said bore and engaging the upper edge of the base to pivot the cover to the base, said member having an upper head to work within the upper larger portion of said bore, and a coiled spring housed within said portion of the bore and confined between said head and shoulder of the bore.
