Be it. known that I, N noon KOLR` a subject ofV the King of Hungary, residing at Budapest, in the Kingdom of Hungary, haver invented newv anduseful Improvements inl Bill-Delivery Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description oi' the same.'
Printing mechanismvof the kind in which the, account clamped in a frame is introduced into the casing containing the countf ing apparatus are Well knownrin meters. In.' thisjknown mechanism the, casing contains a device by means of which the paper sheet used; for printing is capable of being pressed against the type with a relativel)T strong and uniform pressure.
As t'hispressure device is,exceed-inglyl sensitive as regards its precise adjustment and, therefore, calls for frequent refadjustmient, it is the Object of this, invention tol provide mechanism wherein the pressure devicefis locatedv in the paper-carrying frame used for insertion so that it' may. be readily adjusted and held, ready fonusewithout the necessity of opening4 the apparatus which in meters are usually kept under sealed closure.
According to this invention the printing mechanism comprises an expansible frame adapted to clamp the paper sheet and an impression roller located between thel paper sheet and the rear` wall of the frame and adapted to pressthe paper Vagainst the type. Thisv roller is so movably guided thatin order to move the paper sheet against the type the frame is spread apart ina certain direction during the impression throw of the roller. i
'l` he invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings,`in which Figure 1 shows the printing counting apparatus,'that is to say, the portion ot the account printing mechanism arranged on the meter, in a front view, the casing being shownin section.

The frame 14 is tripped up and the account sheet is inserted together with the indigo copy paper' between the two frames 11 and 14 and clamped therebetween.V A key is then introduced through the key hole 2G, shown in Fig. 4, the hole in the end of the key receiving in this action the end of a shaft 27 (Figs. 1 and 3).
As the key is rotated it first moves the bolt 9 laterally in the direction of the arrow 28 thereby freeing the door 7. The end of the key, moreover, enters the notch 29 in a disk 30 secured to the shaft 27' and rotates this shaft until the latter is stopped by the engagement of a pawl 31 with a tooth 32 of a disk 83 which is likewise arranged on the shaft 27 (Fig. 3). As the door 7 is now released, the printing frame 10 can be slipped through the opening 6 in the casing 5 in which action it is guided in recesses 34 (Fig. 3) of the frame portion 35. The printing frame is inserted so that the paper sheet or the frames 11 and 14 face the counting trains A and VB. The counting wheels of these trains are provided with raised type which form the printing type.
As soon as the printing frame is inserted to a sufficient depth into the easing 5, the ratchet pawls 24 (shown in Fig. 7) engage the edge of the recess 84 (Fig. 3) and preventthe arinting frame from being withdrawn. how, by means of thel handle 23 the impression roller 20 is pulled in the direction of the arrow 36,'that- 1s to say, in the direction of the lines X-X, Y-Y (Fig. 1). In this action the trunnions 19 of the impression roller travel on to the straight part of the bars 17 which is nearer the frame 11 and thereby exert pressure upon the springs 15 so that the roller 20 presses upon the paper sheet clamped between the frames 11 and 14 and forces it against the printing type of the counting apparatus. T he trunnions 19 also press against the projecting edge of the frame 11 and, therefore, press the portions 10 and 11 of the printing frame during the printing operation apart one from the other. Vhile the impression roller 2O travels along the bars 17 the printingV operation takes place and when the roller reaches the end of its travel the trunnions 19 are again in contact with bent ends of the rollers 17, whereby the pressure on the paper sheet is relieved. At the same time the bearing 21 presses against the lugs 37 of the ratchet pawls 24 by'whioh action the printing frame is released. The printing frame can now be withdrawn from the casing 5 after which the door 7 is closed by the action of springs 38. By the closing movement of the door 7 the pawl 31 is withdrawn from behind the tooth 32 of the disk 33 in any convenient manner, for instance, by a bellV crank lever 40 which is keyed to a. Shaft 39 (Figs. 1 and 3) theregroove 43 (Figs. S and 9) the shaft of the V operating wheels 44 of the trainB to be temporarily thrown out of engagement with the counting wheels, thus enabling the latter to be reset to zero by means of the arrangement shown in Fig. 10 which in itself is well known, before the key can be withdrawn from the key hole 26 prior to the completion of the rotation of the shaft 271.
The details of the construction and the manner of accommodating the printing device in the frame may vary at will butl it is important that the printing device is not located'within the casing which is arranged on the meter but in the withdrawable printingv frame, thereby doing away with the necessity of providing each meter with its individual printing mechanism.
By using several carbons or copying sheets, several impressions may obviously be obtained simultaneously.
The mechanism may, moreover, be further modified by the impression roller being capable of being withdrawn from the printing frame so that the printing frame and the paper sheet are inserted in the `apparatus first and thel impression roller is introduced subsequently. v
In the place of an impression roller the printing frame maycontain an equivalent impression means, such as a straight or curved platen.
`What1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a meter the combination of counting apparatus having counting trains provided with printing wheels, a mechanism for printing a record comprising a movable impression roller arranged in a frame constructed in the form of an expandible housing containing the record sheet and adapted to be inserted through a slot in the meter casing with the recording sheet facing the type wheels of the counting train so as to be pressed against the printing wheels by the expansion of the'frame in the operation of the impression roller, substantially asset forth.- v
2.111 a meter, the combination of counting apparatus having counting trains provided with printing wheels, a mechanism for printing a record comprising an expandible housing with two clamping members for holding the record sheet on one side, an elastic frame spring supported at the opposite side of the housing and an impression roller movable along the said elastic frame whereby in the movement of the impression roller between the said frame and the record sheet clamping parts, the said housing is exanded to force the record sheet into contact with the printing wheels of the counting apparatus, substantially as set forth.
3. In a meter the combination of counting apparatus having counting trains provided with printing wheels, a mechanism for printing a record comprising an expandible housing adapted to be inserted through a slot in the meter casing, two clam )ing members on one side of the housing tor clamping a record sheet, a spring supported frame on the opposite side of the housing having guide rails with inclined parts at top and bottom, a movable impression roller adapted to travel along the said guide rails and between the same and the said clamping parts and a bearing bracket for journaling the trunnions of the impression roller and provided with a pull rod for the actuation ofthe said roller, substantially as set forth.
