To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I' ADELBERT E. Bronson,
Cleveland in the county of Cuyahoga and State of hio, have invented a certainnew and useful Improvement in Detachable Gaps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a construction in which a tubular member surrounding the end of a projecting stem, is attached to the said stem in such a manner. as to permit of its read detachability. Speci cally the invention relate to an improvement 1n dust caps for use in connection with tire valves, and the improvement provides a construction which does away with the necessity for screwing the dust cap along the valve stem for a greater or less distance, but provides for the detachability of the dust cap by a simple twist or axial rotation with respect to the valve stem.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction which will be free from openings or crevices in which mud and snow may lodge, both of which features are decidedly disadvantageous in a construction of the kind herein roposed 7 Generally spea ing, the invention may be said to comprise the elements and combinations thereof set forth in the accompanying claims.

Referring to the drawings, '1 indicates a tire valve stem of usual construction, and as is well known, the stem 1 is hollow, and within the stem there 'is a valve and valve seat of :which we will give no further de-.

The opposite end of the casing 8 has its side walls crimped in, as indicated at .12 in Fig. '1, these crimped in portions engaging with the under side of the flange 7 onthe fill-Q5 to retain it within the-casing. The opening in the casing 8' which is adjacent to the flange 7 of the nut'5 is filled in with a washer 13 of leather or other sui ablematerial. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. The combination of astem, a casing upon the said stem, said casing having a cover portion provided with a plurality of spaced openings, a plate within. said casing,
means for resiliently holding said plate against the cover of the casing, said plate beingprov-ided with extensions which project through the openings in the cover, a cap having spaced extensions at the open e'nd thereof, said extensions being adapted to be passed through" the openings in the casing, the extensions engaging the under side of the cover of the casing upon axial rotation of the tubular member, the extensions upon the said plate filling the openings in the cover of the casing when the tubular member is thus rotated.
