IMPROVEMENT IN SLEDS.
Specification describing an Improvement in Sleds, invented by J oHN K. REICHERT, of Lancaster, in the county of Fairfield and State of Ohio.
The invention will iirst be fully described, and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a side elevation of sled, and Fig. 2 a transverse rear elevation of the same.
A represents one ofthe runners, made inthc usual form, and B one of the cross-pieces. C is a series of metallic standards arranged on each side of the sled, between the runners and cross-pieces. rIhese standards O have a socket, c, at the top, and a bifurcation, c1, at the bottom, at right angles to each other. The bifurcation has transverse and opposite perforations 0202. D is a series of braces, arranged between and attached to standards C and crosspieces B, to hold them in their proper relative position.,V The sockets c of standards O are slipped over the ends of cross-pieces B until they incline properly, to correspond with thc inclination of runner A. The bifurcation el is then caused to straddle the runner A, and is bolted or riveted thereto, through the opposite perforations c2. When the cross-pieces B are supported by standards C, made of meta-l, and with the socket and bifurcation described, I am enabled to avoid entirely the usual mortise in the runner. This mortise weakens and renders the runner liableto break, While it also affords access to Water and moisture, which rot it.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I esteem to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Paten t, is-
A sled standard, C, made of one piece of metal, having socket c at top, and bifurcation c1` at bottom, and supported by brace D as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN K. REIOHERT.
