Description

UNITED STATES AMOS A. MOULTON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.y
IMPROVEMENT IN VALVE-BUCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent-No. 124,909, dated March 26, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMOS A. MOULTON, of the city and county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Improved Valve-Bucket, of which the following is a specification:
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a vertical central section. Fig. 2 is an isometrical view, showing the several parts detached.
My invention consists in applying to a bucket a metallic bottom and sand-valve. The bottom is cast with a circular rim in the center, which rises a convenient distance above the bottom. There is also a center piece in the circular opening formed by the rim and concentric with it, and supported by radial arms or braces. Through this center piece a bolt passes and holds the valve-cover and packing. The valve-cover is also metallic, and of equal or greater diameter than the rim. The packing may be made of rubber, leather, or any other suitable material, and is held in place by a collar or nut on the bolt before mentioned. The
bolt lits loosely in the center piece, so as to admit of both a vertical and circular or turning motion, the object of which will be more fully explained.
In the drawing,A represents a section of the bucket with the metallic bottom B, valve-rim Y tersunk to receive it. The circular rim is made narrow on its upper edge, so that particles of sand cannot lodgeon it and prevent the valve cover from shutting. The rim projecting above the bottoni, the sand is carried over it and de posited on the inside of it. The bolt being allowed to turn in the center piece, the valvecover will turn with it and remove any particles of sand that may have lodged on the rim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sand-valve, formed with and upon the metallic bottom B, having a circular rim, a., radial arms r, center piece c, bolt c, valvefcover C, and its packing, as shown, and operating substantially as described.
v AMOSl A. MOULTON.
