Be it ln'o'wii that I, PRESTON E.' GILLING, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Sumter, in the county of Sumter and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Magneto- Lainps, of which the following is a specifi# cation, reference beingr had to the' accompanyinlg` drawing.
The invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined generatingl and lighting devices and more particularly to devices of this character which are used for bicycles or the like.
Prior to my invention generating?r and lightingl devices have been constructed wherein a lamp is associated with the generator and the 'generator is driven b v a driving -wheelimaking contact with the wheel of the bicycle or other vehicle to which the device is attached. l

An object' of the invention is to provide; a ineans for supporting the reflector for the lamp in a generating' and lighting device oli the above character, which ineaiis thercliector to be shifted relative to the generatiig device so that the rays of light may be thrown in a direction parallel to the plane of the wheel. v

Said sleeve has a projecting flange and this projecting flange serves as a means fon securing 'the sleeveaud the reflector to the supporting casing'. The reflector is mounted on a short sleeve 9. which projects downwardly therefrom and 4carries a flange 10 at its lower end. The upper end plate carries a bearing 1l for the armature shaft and the sleeve 9 lits about vthis bearing. Mounted on the end plate-2- is an (Nei-hanging' bracket 512 and this bracket hasni` :forwardly projectingr linger 13. The flange 10 is foi-ined with a'iiotch lll. shaped similarly to the linger 1B but slightly larger than the same.` Said flange l() also has a projecting portion 15 which is formed with tot llllll slot 16 lying in the arc of a circle the cen-A teref, which is the center' of the sleeve 9.
A rodfe'xtends through the easing and joins the two end plates 2 2 and this rod carrres a Ynut 17. The rod extends through the slot 16 and when the nut is screwed down it rmly clamps the flange of the reflector against the upper end plate 2.
From the above it will be apparent that when the'nut 17 is loosened the reflector maywheel 18 and thus the armature is driven.
It is essential that the front face of the reflector shall lie in a plane which cuts the .plane of the wheel at right angles so that the rays of light will be thrown forward in a direction parallel with the plane of the wheel. After the generating and lighting device has been secured to the wheel the reflector may be adjusted as indicated in full lines in Fig. 2, to bring the front face of the reflector into the line A-B, which lies in a the spirit of the invention, as set forth in the appended claims;
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A generating and lighting device for bicycles or the like including a supporting casing, a reflector carried by said supporting casing, a lamp located in said reflector and supported independently thereof, and means for adjusting, the position of the reflector relative to the supporting casing whereby the front face of the reflector may be placed in a plane at right angles to the plane of the wheel of the bicycle regardless of the position of the supporting casing.

A generating and lighting device for bicycles or the like including a supporting casing, an armature within said casing, bearings carried within the casing for the armature shaft, a reflector carried by the support- ,ing casing into which the armature shaft extends, a lamp carried by said armature shaft and means whereby said reflector may be adjusted about the axis of said armature shaft.
3. A generating and lighting device for bicycles and the like including in combination a supporting casing having bearings, an armature shaft located in said bearings and projecting therefrom, a reflector havin an opening through which said armature s aft projects, a lamp carried by the armature shaft, a sleeve supporting said reflector, said sleeve engaging the bearing for the armature adjacent the reflector, a flange formed integral with said sleeve, said flange having a slotted extension and locking means extending through the slot in said extension for securing` the reflector in adjusted positions.

A generating and lighting device for bicycles or the like including in combina tion a supporting casing having bearings for an armature shaft, Aan armature shaft located in said bearings and projecting therefrom, a reflector having an opening through which the armature shaft extends, a lamp carried by the armature shaft, a sleeve supporting said reflector, said sleeve being adapted to engage the bearing for the armature shaft vadjacent the reflector, a flange formed in tegral with the sleeve, a bracket carried by the casing, said bracket having a finger overlapping the flange and said flange having a notch adapted to be brought into register with the finger so that the reflector can .be removed from the supporting casing.
