To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MORTON MURPHY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Janesville, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Cut-0fis, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an automatic shut-0d for automatically cuttin ed the electrical current of a fireless coo er when a given amount of fluid has been vaporized from the well of the cooker.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and eflicient meansfor normally closing electrical circuit to permit the heating means to be operated, whereby the circuit closing mechanism will be automatically and efficientlybpened when a given amount of fluid is vaporized from the well of the cooker.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists'of certain novel combinations, constructions, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

The body of the cooker 1 is provided with the usual cover 8, and thiscover 8 is provided with a valve casing 9 upon the top thereof having a projecting sleeve 10, within which proj ecting sleeve 10 extends the nozzle 11 of the steam condenser 12. This steam condenser 12 comprises an elongated tubular body having a d scharge or drain aperture 13 near the outer end thereof, and the Tower end of this steam condenser 12 is fitted within the pocket 14 of the cover 15'carried' bythe circuit breaking housing 16 as will be hereinafter more clearly described. It should be understood that this tube 11 is detachable from the tube 10 so as to permit the device to be "attached to the cooker when so desired, and alsoto permit the same to be removed for the purpose of cleaning and the like. v

' rte the casing 16 and is provided with depending tapering ears 21 upon each side thereof, thereby producing a V-shaped notch 22 be tween the ears 21. This notch 22 is adapted to fit over the notch 23 formed in the lower section 24 of the support as illustrated clearly in Fig. 6. This lower section 24 of the support comprises a thin sheet metal body having its side edges fitting within the vertically extending channels 25 of the body 16 as clearly illustrated in Figs. 3 and 7. An upper section 26 is fitted over the lower section 24 of the support and is adapted to fit snugly within the slots 25 and is provided with a substantially V-shaped upper face 27. The cover 15 of the housing 16 is adapted to firmly hold the upper section 26 upon the upper edge of the lower section 24, and thereby revent the support from working loose. I since the body of the tripping bracket 20 fits within the notch 23 of the lower section 24, the upward movement of the bracket 20 is limited or prevented by means of the upper section 26 of the support. This structure is illustrated clearly in Fig. 6. The
body of the tripping bracket 20 is provided with a rearwardly extending car 28, which rearwardly extending car 28 supports a drip "29.. The forward end of the tripping bracket 20 is substantially Z-shaped and is provided with a forwardly extending tripping end 30, which forwardly extending tripping end 30 engages the upwardly extending lip 31 ofthe inclined arm 32 of the circuit breaker 33. This circuit breaker 33 com rises a metallic bracket having depen ing tapering ears 34 similar to the ears 21 of the bracket 20, thereby producing a substantially V-shaped notch 35 for constituting a pivot for fitting over the lower section 24" of the supporting bracket clearly illustrated in Fi 4 of the drawings, as well as Fig. 7 his lower section 24 fits in notches 25 formed similar to the notches referred to in connection with the support section 26 of the supportfor the circuit breaker is of similar construction. to the upper section 26 of the support for the tripping bracket 20.
A supporting clip 36 is each end of the body 33, and each clip comprises a pair of spring jaws 37, between which spring jaws 37 are adapted to fit the metallic ends 38 of the circuit breaking tube 39. Each jaw 37 is provided with an inwardly bent ear 40, which inwardly bent car 40 constitutes means for limiting the longitudinal movement of the circuit breaking tube 39 within the brackets or clips 36.

The tube 39 is provided with an insulating rod 42 arranged centrally thereof, and this insulating rod 42 engages at each end the conducting wires 43 and 44, these conducting wires 43 and 44 being grounded upon the caps 38. It will, therefore, be seen that the clips 36 will form an electrical contact with the respective caps 38. One of the clips 36 is electrically connected to the wire 19 by means of a conducting wire 45, and the other wire 19 is electrically connected to the opposite clip 36 b means of a conducting wire 46 as clear y illustrated in Fi 3. It will, therefore, be seen that as long as the circuit breaking tube 39 remains in a horizon al position, the current will pass through the mercury bubble 47 between the conducting wires 43 and 44 and allow an electrical circuit to be maintained through the wire 19, through the wire 45, through one of the clips 36, through one of the caps 38 to the conducting wire 44, through the mercury bubble 47 through the conducting wire 43 out through the other clip 36 out through the wire 46 and return through the wire 19'.
A rod 48 is mounted within a vertically extending plate 49 formed in the inner face of the casing 16 and is provided with an inturned lower end 50 and an outturned upper end 51. This rod, 48 is rotatable within the bracket 52 which supports the same, and as the up er end 51 1S swung toward the letters n printed upon the top 15 as shown in Fig. 1, and the rod is lifted, the end 50 will fit under the body33 and lift one end of the body 33 to aborizontal position and allow the forwardly projectin end 30 of the trippin bracket20 to fit under the upturned end lief the'body 33 as clearly illustrated in'Fig. 50f the, drawings, thereby holding the body 33 in a int breaking tube 39 in a horizonta position to through. It should be understood that the casing 33 is so balanced as to have the heaviest end upon the inner end of the casing 33, and cause the same to automatically drop downwardly as soon as the tripping bracket 20 is released therefrom.
From the foregoin descri tion it will be seen that a very simp e and e cient structure has been produced for permitting an electrical circuit to be readily and easily broken as the heat within the well of the fireless cooker reaches a degree suflicient toevaporate a givenamount of fluid, and it should be further understood that the automatic cut-0d is a very simple and eficient construction and may be manufactured at a minimum cost.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is 2- 1. An automatic cut-off for a 'firele'ss cooker comprising a casing, a condenser, a connection between the interior of the cooker and'the condenser for transferring and cola lecting the vapors from the cooker, and

An automatic shut-0d of the class described comprising a cooker having a casing, a condenser, a connection between the interior of the cooker. and the condenser for transferring and collecting the vapors from the cooker, an automatic circuit breaker, a tripping bracket, and means carried by said tripping bracket and adapted to receive moisture from said condenser for automatically throwing said circuit breaker to an inoperative position when a predetermined amount of moisture has been deposited upon said tripping bracket.

An automatic shut-0d for a fireless cooker comprising a casing, a condenser, means for facilitating the admission of steam into said condenser, an automatic circuit breaker pivotally mounted within said casing, a tripping bracket engaging said circuit breaker, said tripping bracket pro vided with a pan at one end, said condenser being adapted to discharge moisture into said pan for tripping said tripping bracket and releasing the same from said automatic circuit breaker whereby said automatlc circuit breaker will be causedto drop to an inoperative position.
5. In combination with a cooker, of an. automatic shut-off, said cooker provided with -a casing, a condenser, a connection between the interior of the cooker and the condenser for'transferring and collecting the vapors from the cooker, a heating medium posiposited in saidcondenser.
