To all 'whom z't may concern.' Be it known that I, WILLIAM D. LUCE, citizen of` the *United States, and a. resident of Haverhill, county of Essex and State of Massnchusetts, have invented an Improve ment in Spark-Plug Testers, o'`1 4which the folll'i'wing 1s :L specification.
This invention relates to devices for testing theI spark-plugs of internal-Combustien. engines, to determine if the 'plu me sperli- `ingproperly, said devices being eoinmoniy known as jump-spark testers. These de vices haveueuelly comprised. n. handle henring a pair VO'f Contact arms7 one being adept ved to he grounded on the engine und the othell to be held in Contact with. the ping which is being tested, said arm being .leeK trically Connected to' eperlpponts which are held in proximity, but eut of Contact in .a ichan'lherformed in the handle and se itl-ranged that thespm-k may he ohseived The conditions, under which devi this character ere lil'lely'to be used, vary,
'considereblyq so that, while such u. device muy be convenientlyl employed under seme eondi'tiens, it eannot be .'on've'niently einployed under' others, and, es f1- vesult, their lack of adaptability .is Solnei-imes en jeetion. l
.The primary Object ef my inve V provide a devine of the Character n fexfied to, which 'is .irendily edel. ferent Conditions of use end wir `zutaipted to be .reduced in einev may be conveniently carried in thepoeket.
I accomplish ths'and other @biente ef my invention,- by the menne shawn in the eeeompanying drawing ,in Whi'h.:-'-

TF sethet passing between the the light will be I reflected by the concave mirror b, onto the lass c, considerably intensified, so that the act as to whether the electrical connections between the plug, and the source of electrical supply, are in good condition, may be readily determined.
I claim 1. A jumpsspark tester comprising an' in sulating handle havingan inspection chan ber therein, adjacent one end, a pair of conductors extending into 'said chamber from opposite sides of the handle with their adjacent ends `in sparking relation, a pair of contact arnisp'livotally mounted at oppol sitesides of the andle to swing about said conductors, respectivel'between folded po,
e the handle and positions of siti'ons' alngsi also be use at different angles thereto and longitudinally thereof.
2.' A'jump-spark tester comprising an insulating handle having an inspection chamber therein adjacent one end, attaching plates secured to the handle atopposite sides of said chamber, a pair of contact arms having tubular pivots connecting the same to said attaching plates respectively, to permit said arms to be swun longitudinal and a pair of conductor screws threaded in said pivots and extending into sparking relation with each other Within said chamber.
3. A'jump-spark tester comprising an insulating handle having an inspection ber therein adjacent one end, aA pair of contact arms having a frictional pivotal connection with the handle at o posite sides of said chamber, to permit saidD arms to be chambetween opposite positions re ative to the handle,
swung between directly opposite positions longitudinally of the handle and to be held friotionally in Said positions and indiierent intermediate positions, and a pair of conductors having electrical connection with said arms, respectively, and extending into said chamber in sparking relation.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
