Description
Patent@ Nov. 27, 19171 hmmm INVENTOR. .ZW/wry Twawzf ATTORNEYS.
ZACHARY T. COWAP'T, OF ALAMEDA, GALIEORNA.
ATTACHMENT FOR STOV'ES.
Application filed September l1, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it linovvn that l, Zaonnnr T. Coivan'r, a citizen ot the TJnited States, residing at Alameda, in the county ott Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful improvements in rttacln ments for Stoves, ot which the following is a specification.
T his invention relates to an improved attachment tor stoves7 more particularly to a device tor utilizing the waste heat around gas burners for heating Water.
The principal object et my invention is to provide a device of this character, which may be attached to stoves already in use, that is simple in construction and etlicient in accomplishing the object above set forth.
Another object of my invention is to so arrange the various parts that large or small cooking vessels may be supported upon the fuel burner, and a still further object is to so construct the parts that the maximum amount of Waste heat is utilized Without interfering with the use ot the burner for cooking purposes.
With these and other objects in vieuT the invention consists oit certain novel ifeatures of construction, the combination and arrangement of parts herein illustrated and more specically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the draiv- .ing accompanying` this specification.
Figure 1 is a view in plan ot the attachment With a portion broken away shovving the manner oi"- mounting` on the top ot a stove.
Fig. 2# is a view in section on line 2-2 oit Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan vievv ot a modilied form ot my invention.
Fig. 4- is a vievv in section on the line lf-4l: of Fig. 3.
Referring to corresponding parts of the several views by the same numerals of reference 1 denotes the top portion of the stove around the inner edge of which is a ledge 2 on which the grid or top plates are normally supported. 4
When my invention is used this grid is removed and a plate 3 is substituted there for. This plate is arranged to fit Within the ledge 2 and is provided with a rib l to prevent matter Which may be spilled thereon from ovving down the sides.
Tn the preferred embodiment of my invention T provide openings 5 in the top oit Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov., 2P?, 19117.
Serial No. 119,597.
plate 3 which are disposed centrally over the burners G. These openings are provided with a ledge i adapted to hold a close litting lid S so that When not used tor cooking purposes the various openings are closed by hese lids and the heat retained under the piate. Embracing each ot the burners G is a ring 9, having an annular chamber 10 connected with intalte and outlet openings 11 and 12 respectively.
ln one form ot my invention l provide the ring 9 ivith the plurality ot inwardly projecting hollenT radial lugs 13 whereby a greater heatingI eiiiciency is secured. EX- tending in Yardly from the ends et these lugs are nngers 1st which `toi-1n a grille Work on which small cooking utensils may be seated and which tui-ther serve to conduct the heat from the burner to the ring 9. i so construct the various parts that the top ot iingers 1li are on alinement With the top oi lugs 13, and occupy substantially the same level above the burners G as did the regular grids.
When a stove is equipped with several burners the rings 9 are connected together by means ci nipples 15 to torni a continuous cavity from one to the other. The iirst ring is connected to a pipe 1G leading from the bottom ot a storage reservoir not shown, and the outlet oit the last ring;` is connected by a pi Je 17 to the top et the storage reservoir. The various rings are supported trom the stove top 1 in any preferred manner such as by groviding` projecting` arms 18 Which rest on the ledge 2 or which are connected directly vvith the under side ot plate 8, it being desirable that the rines as a Whole have a slight pitch upward rrom the pipe 16 to the pipe 17.
ln the modied torni shown in Figs. 3 and -i the ring 9 is cast as an integral part of the plate the same .torni however being maintained.
it my device is to be applied to a gas stove the .usual supporting grids are removed and one or more plates 8 provided which have the same size and shape as the grids of the gas stove and which are provided vvith openings positioned centrally above the burners. When one burner is lighted it will be apparent that the heat instead ot escaping upwardly around the vessel above the burners Will be maintained under the plate and will iform a heated atmosphere the entire length thereoi'f. this means the top oll the plate will be heated to a certain degree together with the various rings 9, thus other portions of the plate may be used for slow cooking while the water within the rings 9 will be heated and circulated toward pipe 17 into the storage reservoir.
While I have shown the preferred construction of iny invention it will be understood that minor chang-es may be iliade in details oiE design and form of the heating rings and these also I wish to include within the scope of the claims.
I claim as new and wish to cover by Letters Patent l. A top for gas stoves comprising a flat supporting plate having openings concentiically disposed above the stove burners, hollow annular rings around said openings on the under side of said plate, lugs extend- Copies of this patent may he obtained for five cents each, by addressing the inginwardly from said rings and having cavities connecting with the hollow of said rings, fingers forming on the inner ends of said lugs, the top of said lugs and said ingers being` in alineinent and below the top of said plate.
2. A top for gas stoves comprising a iiat supporting` plate having` openings concen trically disposed above the stove burners, integrally formed hollow annular rings around said openings on the under side of said plate and substantially embracing the stove burners, lugs extending inwardly from said rings and having cavities connecting with the hollow of said rings, fingers forming on the inner ends oi" said lugs, the top of said lugs and said fingers being in alinement and below the top of said plate.
In testimony whereof I aiX my signature.
