Description

C. CARROLL.
VIBHATING MACHINE.
APPLICATION man FEB. 21. 19H,
l ,2%'79372 Patenten?. Nov. 20, 191?.
I attorney@ CHARLES CARROLL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
VIBRATING-MACHINE. l l 4 A "l Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2U, BWI?.
Application filed February 27, 1917. Serial No. 151,230.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES CARROLL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State 5 of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vibrating-Machines, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention is an improvement in vibrating machines, and has for its object to provide mechanismv of-the character specified by means of which a rapid vibration may be imparted to the body of the person being treated, particularly to the muscles of the arms, chest and neck.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a front view of the improved vibrator, and
Fig. 2 is an end view.
In the present embodiment of the invention, a motor 1 is provided, the shaft or spindle 2 of the motor extending beyond the motor at both ends, and each end of the extended spindle is journaled in a bearing 3 which is supported by a pedestal 4. Each of the pedestals 4 is spaced apart from the adjacent end of the motor, and a pulley or roller 5 is secured to the spindle between each pedestal and the adjacentend of the motor.
Each of the pulleys or rollers 5 is engaged by a series of four rollers 6, the said rollers being journaled in bearings in supporting frames 7. The frames are open frames, and the rollers are arranged in pairs, one pair above and the other pair below the roller 5. Each frame is provided at its front with a handle 8, the said handles being vertical and being secured to the frame, as shown, and the handles are adapted to be grasped by the person being treated.
When the machine is put in operation a minute and rapid vibration is produced, whereby tone and vigor are imparted to the patients physical system, in a quite marked degree. The tonic effect produced is in fact quite out of proportion to the scope or degree of the vibration.
I claim:
l. A vibrating machine comprising in combination with the motor having its shaft extended beyond both ends of the motor, of a bearing for each end of the extended shaft, a roller secured to the shaft between each bearing and the motor, an open frame in connection with each such shaft roller and inclosing the same, and a series of rollers journaled on each frame and surrounding and engaging the shaft roller and driven thereby, each frame having a vertically arranged handle at one side, for the purpose speciied.
2. In a vibrating machine of the type indicated, the combination with a shaft and means for rotating the same, of a roller mounted on the shaft and rotating therewith, a frame also mounted on the shaft and provided with a series of rollers surrounding and engaging the shaft roller and provided with a handle at one side as described.
CHARLES CARROLL.
