[ITO/7465K {Lamar sunny; JR, or rnILAnELrma,rnnnsrnvsnra TaaZlwhom it may cbncem." I I "Be it known thatgI', ALBERT.SUEHY, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of". Philadelphia; and estate of Pennsylvania, haveinvented a new i and; useful Improvement in Machines for t y -O1eaningPlast1c Materials, .of which the l, following is a full clear and'exact'des'crip 1 *tion, reference being had to 'the acco'mpany specification. l a t t a j My invention relates to means forcleaning' plastic substances, particularly chicle a used in the manufacture ofchewing gn-in.
' 15 Heretoforejin cleaning chick and other .i'pla'stic substances for the remova'l of forwaterJW-Washing has been found ineffective to thoroughly cleanse, and a certain amount product.

to clean, which'has been previouslyfheated,

The chicle adheres tothe rollers and is" 3 thoroughly washed by'beingcarried through the heated water inpan 29. The chicle which is carried by the {roller 6 comes in a I contact with and is gradually transferredto the roller 8 which; traveling in the "direc- -t tion of the'arrow, carries it to the scraper 19 and under the spray 27". The chicle,twhich,isheld I v a llfl' w 8, leaving the more solidbark, grit, etc. Thus, in time, all of the chicle passes under the scrapers and collects in: the pan 25 thoroughly cleaned.
My invention maybe modified by omitting the rollers 6 and 6 and the sprays 27 and 27, "and feeding the heated chicle direct to the roller 8 to which'it adheres and by which it is carried through the scrapers n s ed- The Spray may, f cou s be'used where. the roller 8 is used alone, if desired.
, 1 I do not limit my invention to the cleaning of as it is effective for cleaning any plastic substance or any substances which may. be rendered plastic by heat. 1
Havin now fully described my Invention, What I si re'to claim and protect by {Letters Patent is c v a, 1. In a machine for cleaning plastic substances, in combination, a cylinder to theperiphery ofwhich the substance to be cleaned 1's ada ted to. be conveyed,means to revolve the cy inder, a scraper oi hard; and inelastic material positioned close to, butspaced appreciably from, the periphery oi the ,c linder, adapted, to prevent the passage 0 appreciable particles oftforeign matter biit to allow the formation of a film otplasticmaterial, and a: second scraperbeyond the first scraper and positioned nearerthe'axis of the cylinder than the first scraper so as ,to scrape from its periphery, more or, lessv of the film of aterial adhering to the;:cylinders periphery. ne 119M PM, m e at a ed 2; In a machine for cleaning plastic substances, in combination, a cyhnder, a plurality of'scrapers cooperating with the periphery of thecylinder and located at different distances from its axis, and a pair of cylinders, one adjacent and cooperating with the first cylinder and the other remote from the first cylinder but adjacent to and cooperating with the other cylinder of the pair, the cylinders of the pair being adjustable relatively to, each other. ,d
3. In a machine for, cleaningplasticsubstances, in combination a cylinder adapted to carry the substance to be cleaned, means to revolvethe cylinder, a plurality oi scrapers positioned adjacent to the surface of said cylinder, one of said scrapers being practically in .contact with said surface, endaspray nozzle positioned above said cylinder. In a machine for cleaning'plastic substances, in conbination a pair of cylinders adjustable relatively to each other, a third cylinder adjacent one of said pair, a plurality of scraperspositioned adjacent tosaid third cylinder, one of said-scrapers being in contact with the surface of said last named cylinder, and a pair v of spray nozzles, one located above and betweensaid, first named cylinder and thevother located above said last named cylinder.
In testimony of which invention, L'ha ve hereunto, set my hand, at Philadelphia, on this 8th day of May, 1917. I I I 1 awem"- seem; a;
