provide a sled which is operated by placing.
one foot upon the sled and using the other foot to propel said sled by pushing againstthe surface of the, ground, the sled having a singie runner and being operated by means of as eering post which is connected to the front end of the runner, so-that by operating the steering post the runner maybe bent slightly laterally thereof so as ,to-steer the sled-and also to maintain the balance of t user of the sled. e invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts set fofih in the following specification and particularly pointed out in the claims thereofc" Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of the sled.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the steering post shown in section. v
Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. y y s Fig. 4 is a detail sectional plan line 4-4 of Fig. 1. 7 A Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings. 5 is the platform of the sled, 6 is the runner and 7 the steering post. The runner consists of a'contact member 8, the front end 9 of said runner being curved upwardly and then bentjiack upon ltself along the portion 10 which terminates in an ea: 11. rear end of the runners extends upwardly taken on and forwardly at an angle at 12, thence alon the under side of the platform at 13,
to w ich platform it is fastened, and thence downwardly and forwardly at 14 terminating in an ear 15 which is fastened to the contact member 8 of the runner.
The steering post 7 is. rotatably mounted on the platform 5 and extends through a sleeve 25. Said sleeve is provided-with a horizontal flanged portion, 16 which is fastened to the top of the platform 5 and has a. flange 17 on its'rear end to which a toepiece 18 is fastened. The toe-piece 18 1s preferably open'on its upper side and provided with lacings fit different-size feet.
, The upperf'end f provided with a handle 2lljbyjme an'sl" of' cross-bar to said ear.
' Specification of Letters Patent. PatentedNov, 20, 1917, Application filed January 20, 1917. Serial No. 148,484.
which said steering post may be" rotated,
so that it may laceto the steering post i The lower endzofthe steering post below] the platform a is flattened on opposite sides at 21 and this flattened portlon "extends, through a similarly shaped hole provided;
in a cross-bar 22.- Said cross-bar'22 is'fsey.
cured to the steering- 23. The opposite en a are connected by apair of links 24 to the ear11. I
In using the device, the coaster laces hisfoot upon the platform 5 with t etoe of 6st 7 by; a cross pioir the foot in the toe-piece 18. He grasps, the
of the cross-bar 22- handle 20 firmly with both hands and pro;
pels the sled by means of his other foot. -'ToT steer the sled and to maintain'his balance,
he turns the steering iost'b 1 means of the handle 20 and thus, t roug the cross-bar 22 and links 24, the runner is sprung to onei'; 6 result o'fgsteeri'ng the sled and maintaining side or the other, thus securing the desired the balance of the coaster.
" Having thus described my invention what i I clainOand desire by Letters Patent to secure 1s:
1. A s led form, a tact member extended upwardly-at its forward end and at its rear end, saidmear end extension bei'ng fastened to said platform, a
cross-bar rotatably mounted on said plat form and a pair of links connecting the oppositeends of said cross-bar to theforward end of saidrunner.
2. Ax sled having, in combination, a platform, a single runner comprising a contact member extended upwardly at its forward 1 86 having, 1n combination, apletsingle runner comprlsing a oon-'- end and then backwardly upon itself and terminating in an ear, the rear end of said] runner extending upwardly, thence alon thence downwardly into engagement with; said contact member, a cross-bar rotatally" said platform to which it is fastened an 3. A sled having, in combination, a platform, a slngle runner comprising a contact wardly along said platform to which it is fastened and thence downwardly and forwardly to engage said contact member, a steering post rotatably mounted on said platform, a cross-bar fast to the lower end of said steering post and a pair of links connecting theropposite ends of said crossbar to the forward end of said runner.
A sled having, incolnbination, a platform, a single runner comprising a contact member extended upwardly at its forward end and at its rear end, said rear end extension being fastened to said platform, a steerform extending upwardly to a substantial distance thereabove and projectingbeneath said platform. a crossbar fast to the lower end of said steering post and a pair of links connecting the oppt site ends of said crossbar to the forward end of said runner.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing \\itnesses.
