As is shownin Fig. 2, the reflector l is provided with a rim portion 28 which is notched out at a plurality of points, as shown at 29. The liner member 5 is provided with a correspondin set of lugs '30 designed to seat themselves in these notchedu out portions to thereby prevent 'the rotation of the reflector during the polishing action.
The operation of my machine is as follows: The receptacle l. is iilled to the desired level with the polishing material, such as einery dust andY water. The retlector 4l is then placed in its position upon the .liner 5 so that the notched-out portions 29 engage the vlugs 30 to prevent its rotation.. The arm 17 is then grasped and moved to the position shown `in dotted lines in Fig. l.,
'whereby the plunger and head' are brought into contacting engagement, but this engagement is slightly yielding. The rotation of the line shaft causes the rotation of the head 8 through the gear connection 2e sind 25 and because of the speed at which the head 8 lrotates, the water betweenthedie! and.
plunger will be correspondingly rotated and thrown laterally by the action of centrifugal force and this in turn causes a circulation of this water through the passages 7 and the opening 6 in the bottom'of the reflector. lt follows, therefore, that the required supply of new emery to facilitate the polishing pensate for this, the holding action between the die and plunger has been made yielding by virtue of the counterweight 18 and thus, as the head 8 is built up, the receptacle sind die will be automatically retracted.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that l have provided a machine which is capable of mechanically polishing the reflecting surfaces of these reflectors and that this polishing,r is accomplished in such manner that all surfaces operated upon, will present the same degree of brilliancy. Should there be a number of these machines arranged side byside to constitute a battery and further, should it bc desired to stop the operation of one of them the set screw 27 may bc loosened from the gear 25 and this rear moved sidewisc to an inoperative position; T his will prevent the operation of this machine and permit the remainder to continue.
