Description

SAMUELW.v DENNY.
lmp`rove`m`ent in Wagon Spring Serats.
NO. 124,670. Patented March9,1872.
UNTTED STaTEs PATENT @Enron N SAMUEL W. DENNY, OF BLUEVILLE, ILLINOIS.
IMPRCVEMENT IN WAGON SPRING-SEATS.
` Specification forming part of Letters Patent No."l2'1,670, dated March 19, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL W. DENNY, of Blueville, in the county of Christian and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon Spring- Seats; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to 'the letters of reference marked thereon. l
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of springs for wagon-seats, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. f
4In order to enable others skilled inthe art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, ,I will now proceed to describe its con struction and operation, referring to the4 annexed drawing, which forms a part of this speciiication, and in which-#- Figure 1 is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 a bottom view of a wagon-seat with my springs attached.
A represents a wagonseat of any desired construction, having two springs, B B, attached to its under side by means of bolts D D, one of said springs being located near the front, and the other near the rear edge ofthe seat. These springs B Bare ofthe peculiar construction shown in Fig. l, the main part of each spring being the same as the upper main4 leaf of the common elliptic carriage-spring, and secured through the center by the bolts D D to the under side of the seat A. The ends of said sprin g are, however, bent upward at a a, and a straight portion, b, runs upward and outward from said bends, and the extreme ends are bent over, forming the hooks d d. If desired, one" or more smaller leaves, G, may be placed on top of each spring B, between it and the seat, for the purpose of strengthening the springs, the bolts D, ofcourse, passing through said leaf or leavesalso. In addition a wooden block, e, maybe interposed between the front spring and the seat, so as to slightly raise the seat in front, giving it al suitable incline.
This seat, with the springs constructed in this manner, is cheap and durable, light, easy to handle, and easy to ride on, ttin g on top of the side boards of a wagon, or under the side boards, as may be most convenient or desirable.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and,l desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the seat A, springs B B, with bends a a, and hooks d d, one or more leaves G, and the block c above the front spring, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of January, 1872.
