The various radial arms 19 are preferably slotted at 23i to permit levers 21): to project therethrough, said levers being pivoted at 25 to the arms 19 just below the slots 23 so that they may have a vibratory action in said slots, said levers 24 occupying a substantially vertically inclined position as indicated in Fig. l. T he function of the levers 24 is to impart a reciprccatory movement to a series of slides 26 to which they are pivoted, said slides 26 occupying a position radial in the turret l and being guided in their movements by guides 2T on the top of the rotary bed 20, it being obvious that these slides 2G move in and out toward the center of the machine across the face of the bed 20. The upper ends of the levers 24 are pivoted at 2S to the inner ends of the slides 26 or to some convenient point on the bottom of said slides Where they project inwardly over the edge of the bed 20. In Fig. l at the right, one of these slides 26 is shown as Working inside of its guides 27, vvhile at the left a slide 26 is shown partly in section with the guide 27 removed so that the position of the slide 26 on the bed 2O can be more clearly perceived.
On top of each of the slides 26 is a circular disk 29 having a depressed recess 30 therein and provided on its periphery With ratchet teeth 3l so that said disk 29 is in eil'ect a ratchet Wheel. Each disk 29 is provided on its bottom at the center with a pin 32 which engages a perforation 33 in the slide 26 so that the disk 29 is susceptible of easy rotation on the pin 32. l:the recess 30 in each disk 29 carries a mold or form for the gold leaf which is preferably composed, according to the usual practice of the industry, of a multiplicity of skins 34:, said skins being of any preferred kind or character and having the function of providing a beating mold possessed somewhat of resiliency and yet of sufficient hardness and toughness to enable the beating to be successfully performed thereon. The beating molds 3l are preferably square in form and are held in place by flat springs or other equivalent devices which press against the sides of the square molds all as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Associated with each one of the ratchet disks 29 is a pavvl 36 adapted to engage the teeth 3l at times and to be disengaged therefrom at other times. These pawls are pivoted at 37 to the traveling bed 20 and are provided With springs 3S attached to one end of the paivl and also to the bed. rEhe springs have the function of drawing the pawls toward the fixed pins 39 on the bed 20. lVhen the paivl 3G is in its normal position, as shown with some of the pawls at the bottom of Fig. 2, it will be seen that the spring 38 holds the paivl against the pin 39, so that its tooth is in a position to engage the teeth 3l of the ratchet edge of the adjacent disk 29, so that reversal is to allo-W the teeth of the ratchet .3l to slip over the paivl until said disk reaches the other limit of its reciprocatory movement and stops and the paivl is allowed to resume its position in the path of the teeth so as to serve as an obstruction thereto and cause the intermittent rotary movement of the mold to take place again when the slide again moves inwardly. The various positions of the paivls relatively to the different ratchets are shown in Fig. 2, and it will be n evident that each time a slide moves inwardly carrying With it one-of the molds 3;, said mold will be given a slight rotary shift which will change its position and consequently the position of the gold leaf resting thereon so that the hammer will strike it in a different spot after each change of position.y
The inner ends of the levers 2l are pivoted to horizontal links 40, each of which has on its inner end nearest the center of the ma chine a vertical doivnu'ardly-projecting pin el vvhich engages the grooves in a horizontal fixed cam which is secured in a stationary position to the central post d, and which for f convenience of construction rests upon the upper end of the central socket 2 Which holds said post 4f; and furthermore each link Ll0 is provided with an upwardly projecting pin 43 which connects by a spring il with a lug or projection 45 on the underside of one or the other of the radial arms 19, these proj ections 45 being apertured in a suitable Way to allow the passage through them of the links l0 and therefore serving as guides for said j links 40. rEhe springs il have the function of holding the pins 4l in the cam grooves. The latter, as shown in Fig. 3, which represents a plan view of this cam 4:2, are shoivn to consist of tivo such grooves 48 and L9 which are eccentric to the center of the cam and which connect by a right-angled cross-connecting groove 50 so that a pin, for example, in the groove 49, will travel around through such groove and then through groove 44S until it reaches the shoulder 53 at the end of said groove, Where it will be deflected at right angles and caused to pass through the cross groove 50 until it again reaches the inner groove 49 and begins to travel as before. Of course, there may be any number of these eccentric cam grooves, and I am not restricted to tivo, but may have three or four, and they may be arranged so that. their paths may have any degree of eccentricity providllo these different lines, it necessarily follows that the metal is subjected to heavy beating in every part and repeated beating more accurately even than it it were being so operated upon by hammers wielded by the human arm with a much more regular operation and better result.
Many changes may be made in the exact construction and relative arrangement ot the various parts of my machine to the end that it may be used in the most successful way in practice without exceeding the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. In a gold beating machine, the combination ot a movable beating member, a circular series of mold carriers, and means for imparting to said mold carriers three motions relatively to the beating member, one of which is a revoluble motion ot' all of the mold carri-ers, another independent radial reciprocatory movement ot each, and the third an individual rotation of each.
2. In a gold beating machine, the combination of a main trame, a horizontal ro'- tary bed thereon, a beating member, means on which the beating member is tulcrumed, means for oscillating said beating member, and a group ot mold carriers supported and moved by the bed, means for imparting to said carriers three motions, one ot which is a group motion, another a radial reciprocation, and the third an individual rotation.
3. In a gold beating machine, the combination of a stationary frame, a horizontally rotating bed on said frame, means for im parting a rotary movement to said bed, a beating member, means central olf the rotating frame on which the beating member is fulcrumed, and means for oscillating said beating member, together with mold carriers and lever devices tor reciprocating them.
il. In a gold beating machine, the combi nation of a main trame, a bed rotating horizontally thereon, an oscillating hammer, means central of the revolving bed on which said hammer is tulcrumed, a plurality of supporting members for the metal to be beaten, said members being carried by the horizontally rotating bed, and means for radially reciprocating said supporting members.
5. In a gold beating machine, the combination of a main frame, a bed rotating horizontally thereon, a hammer device, means on which the latter is fulcrumed, and a plurality of supporting members tor the gold or other metal to be beaten, said supporting members being carried by the horizontally revolving bed, an eccentrically grooved member for reciprocating said supporting members, and means for imparting to said members an intermittent rotary motion.
6. In a gold beating machine, the combination ot a main trame, a horizontally-rotating bed, means for rotating said bed, a vibrating hammer, means on which it is fulcrumed, a plurality of supporting members on which the gold to be beaten is placed, said members being carried by the rotating bed, and means for reciprocating said gold supporting members consisting' essentially ot a revolving cam and leverage connections between the same and the reciprocating devices.
7. In a gold beating machine, the combination of a main trame, an oscillating hammer, a vertical support in which the latter is fulcrumed, means for actuating the hammer, aplurality of supporting members for the gold to be beaten, means for imparting a horizontal rotary movement to the entire group ot supporting members, means for reciprocating them individually radially of the machine, and means for individually rotating them intermittently so that the gold to be beaten may expose dilierent points in poses to each blow of the hammer.
8. In a gold beating machine, the combination of a main frame, a plurality ot resilient supporting members tor the gold to be beaten, an oscillating hammer, means tor supporting the latter so that its oscillations may be toward and away from the resilient supports, and an elastic shock device for taking care of the recoil of the hammer each time it strikes a resilient support.
9. In a gold beating machine, the combination of a plurality of mold carriers, a movable beating device, means tor imparting to said mold carriers three motions relatively to the beating member, one of which is a revoluble motion ot' all ot them, another an independent radial reciprocatory movement ot each, and the third an individual rotation of each, cam-controlled levers for moving said mold carriers and detent devices for assisting in the control of the levers.

In a gold beating machine, the combination of a trame, a bed rotating horizontally thereon, a hammer device, a plurality of mold carriers supported on the rotating bed, means for radially reciprocating said molds, means for individually revolving them, said means including levers, and a cam provided withV grooves which control the movement of said levers.
11. In a gold beating machine, the combination of a frame, a circular bed rotating horizontally thereon, an oscillating hammer, a plurality of mold carriers supported by the rotating bed and carried successively beneath the hammer, lever devices for reciprocating said mold carriers, and a cam controlling the movement of said lever de# vices.k a Y Y 1.2.
