Patented Nov. 6, 1917.
Application filed August 31, 1916. Serial No. 117,826.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS H.ESTERLY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates particularlv to gas burners of the Bunsen type, and is especially directed to the outlet nozzle for such burners.
The principal objects of my invention are,
to provide an attachment for burner whereby separate flames of different caliber may be contemporaneously emitted therefrom in close proximity to each other.
Specifically stated, the form of my invention as hereinafter described comprises a removable nozzle for a burner provided with separate outlets curving away from each other and having their respective outlet orifices of relatively different caliber.
My invention also includes all of the various novel features of construction and arrangement as hereinafter more definitely specified.
The accompanying drawing shows a burner nozzle constructed in accordance with my invention applied to a Bunsen burner of a well-known construction, the burner being shown in elevation and the nozzle being shown in section for convenience of illustration. 7
In said drawing the burner comprises the body 1 having the base 2, the inlet tube 3, to which a suitable supply pipe A may be conveniently connected, and the tubular burner stem 5.
The burner nozzle, which is arranged to be removably connected with the burner, has the hollow stem 6 telescopically engaged with the burner stem 5, and has the upper or free end bifurcated to form separate outlet branches 7 and 9 respectively curving outwardly away from each other.
As clearly shown in the drawing, the bore 1 and tlet eri e o he b a ch 7 are of relatively smaller caliber than the bore 11 and outlet orifice of the branch 9, so that,
as will be obvious, the branch 7 will emit of flame to the proportion desired. This procedure, however, not only consumes valuable time but involves some skill in adjusting the burner to produce the required results.
My invention is particularly advantageous to the dental profession as the small needle flame is useful in fine soldering operations, heating gutta-percha points, sweating tooth bands, etc., while the large or brush flame is necessary for warming chip blowers, annealing gold, etc.
I do not desire to limit my invention to the precise details of construction and arrangement herein set forth, as it is obvious that various modifications may be made therein without departing from the essential features of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A burner nozzle having separate divergently directed outlets whose respective outlet orifices are free and of relatively different caliber.
2. A burner nozzle arranged to be removably connected with a burn-er and having separate oppositely directed outlets whose respective outlet orifices are free and of relatively difierent caliber.
3. A burner .nozzle having a tubular con nection with a burner, and having its free end bifurcated to form separate outlet branches whose respective outlet orifices are divergently directed and of relatively different caliber.
4. A burner nozzle having a tubular stem terminating in separate outlet branches which curve outwardly from each other, and
tively different caliber.
5. The combination With a Bunsen burner In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set of a nozzle therefor, comprising a tubular my hand this 30th day of August, A. 1)., stem arranged in telescopic relation With 1916. the stem of the burner, and having in- AUGUSTUS H. ESTERLY. tegrally formed separate branch outlets WVitnesses:
Whose respective outlet orifices are free and WILLIAM J. RUSSELL, of relatively different caliber. CLIFTON O. HALLOWELL;
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D, W
