F0, all whom z'zf-may concern Be it known; that I, JULIUS KISH, a sub-. ject of the King of Hungary, residing at Cleveland. in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety Door-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
Thi invention has to do. with safety door locks, and the main object of the. invention is to provide a safety door lock having its operative elements so. constructed and'ar. ranged that I'may employ for their actuation rotatable key barrels of such design and construction that they can be removed and replaced by other similar key barrels having a diiferent pattern of key hole.
Another object of this. invention is the provision of a lock of this character that will permit of the employment on the outside of the door of a plate or device having arevoluble barrel, to. conceal the character and contour of the key hole provided in the inner revoluble barrels.
With these and other objects. in view, my invention resides in the details of con struction and in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in they accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a lock made in accordance with my invention, the casing cover being removed.

A. slot in communication with key hole 31 extends, on one side, throughout the length of the barrel 29, so that a projection as 32 carried by one of the bits as 33 of the key 34, may project slightly beyond the periphcry of the barrel 29 for engagement in a suitable slot 36 provided in the inner periphcry of a barrel 37. lhe said barrel 37 is arranged for rotation upon the barrel 29, on top of the cam thereof, and has formed on its outer periphery a series of teeth as 38, designed to mesh with the teeth 22 of the rack portion 19 of the locking bolt. As shown in Fig. 1, the spring fingers 39 and 40, which are secured at one end to the inner wall of the casing section 10, serve to bear, respectively, against the teeth 38 of the barrel 37 and against the cam 30 of the barrel 29, whereby to prevent the rotation of these barrels except upon the manipulation of the proper door key.
When a key as 34, having guidingbits 33 and to conform to the pattern of the key hole 31 and having a projection 32 for engagement in the slot 36, is entered into the barrel 31 and turned, the barrels 29 and 37 turn with it so that the cam 30, acting against the tension of the spring 25, forces the pin 24 out of its notch 20 whereupon the teeth 38 of the barrel 37, engagingthe teeth 22, cause the projection of the locking bolt 15 so that the pin 24 may be forced into the notch 21, locking the bolt against retraction, except uponthe proper reverse manipulation of the key. In this manner I arrange a pair of revoluble barrels, one revoluble upon the other, and designed with a selective key hole so that the lock cannot be turned with any key except that specifically made to conform to the pattern of the key hole and operable in both barrels.
As shown in Finn 2, the length of the barrel 29 isexactly that of the width of the united casing sections 10 and 11 so that the said barrel may be manipulated by the proper key from either side of the door. On the outside of each side of the door, with its central portion in proper alinement with the barrel 29, l secure a concealing plate as 41, each of which is provided with a revoluble outside key barrel 42 having a central longitudinal slot 43 of such size as to snuglyreceive the bit end of the door key. The central underneath sideof each plate as 41 is of concave formation, as illustrated in Fig. 5, so as to permit the retained outer barrel as 4-2, with its outwardly projecting retaining lugs 44, to revolve therein.
Inasmuch as a key operating space as 45, equal in length to the thickness of the intervening door panel as 46, is provided between the outer barrel 42 and the inner barrel 29, the form of the barrel 29 is effectually concealed from view from the outer side of the door. Because of this arrangement, also, a lock picker is given a difiicult task in the taking of an impression of the figure or pattern of the key hole provided in the barrels 29 and 37.
As will be obvious, the barrels 29 and 37 may be made with any desirable pattern of key holewithout changing their slze or outer form. In this manner, I make provision for thechanging from time to time, as V desired, of revoluble barrels having different patterns of key holes; so that by the removal of the barrels containing the old pattern and the insertion of the barrels with new pattern, I virtually provide for a change of locks.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is V 1. In a safety lock, the combination with assembled casing sections including a toothed slidable bolt therein and means adapted to 9,,
be operated upon to lock said bolt in locked and unlocked position; of a key barrel removably and revolubly arranged in open ings in said casing sections in proximity to said slidable bolt, said key barrel being proea vided with a selective key hole which communicates throughout its length at one side with a selective slot, said barrel being provided further with a fixed cam, to operate upon the bolt locking means, and a second res barrel revolubly mounted upon the first barrel, said second barrel being provided with an internal slot adapted to register with the said longitudinal slot in the first barrel and also being provided wlth a series of teeth on file its periphery for engagement with the teeth of the slidable bolt.
2. In a safety door lock, the combination with a pair of assembled casing sections in- 3 cludlng a toothed slidable bolt therein and 115 mechanism adapted to be operated upon to lock said slidable bolt in either locked or unlocked position; of a key barrel removably and revolubly seated in openings in sectlons transversely therewe said casing through in proximity to the toothed side of the sliding bolt, said key barrel being provided with a'selective key hole which communicates through its length on one side with a selective slot and being provided also 125 with a cam on its outer periphery to actuate the bolt locking mechanism, a second barrel revolubly mounted upon said first barrel, N provided with a slot on its inner sideto register wlth the: longitudinal slot of the 130 first barrel, said second barrel also being provided with a toothed periphery adapted to mesh with the teeth of the slidable bolt whereby to actuate the same when unlocked,
and yielding means bearing against both the first and second revoluble barrels to hold the same against turning except under the urging of the proper key.
In a safety door lock, the combination With a pair of assembled casing sections including a toothed slidable bolt therein and mechanism adapted to be operated upon to lock said slidable bolt in either locked or unlocked position; of a key barrel removably and revolubly arranged in said casing sections transversely therethrough in proximity to the toothed side of the sliding bolt, said key barrel being provided with a selective key hole which communicates through its length on one side With a selective slot and being provided also With a cam on its outer periphery to actuate the bolt looking mechanism, a second barrel revolubly mounted upon said first barrel, provided with a slot on its inner side to register with the longitudinal slot of the first barrel, said second barrel also being provided with a toothed periphery adapted to mesh with the teeth of the slidable bolt whereby to actuate the same when unlocked, and concealing means secured spacedly from the outer end of the first barrel, and comprising a fixed plate With an outer barrel revoluble therein, said outer barrel having a longitudinal key slot therethrough in alinement With the selective key hole in the said first revoluble barrel.
