Description

I H. T. CHILDRESS.
RAZOR STROP HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED MAYQ. I917- Patented Oct 23, 1917.
To all whom it may NITE 'il HENRY T. CHILDEESS, OF HALLET'ISVILLE, TEXAS.
BAZOIt-STROP HOLDER.
concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY T. CHrLnnEss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hallettsville, in the county of Lavaca and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Razor-Strep Holder, of which the following is a specification;
The present invention relates to a razor strop holder, and aims to provide a novel panying drawing,
and improved device for winding up and housing a razor strop when not in use, the strop being readily withdrawn when needed.
It is the object of the invention to provide a razor strop holder of simple and inexpensive construction, which can be readily and cheaply manufactured, and which will be practical and efficacious in use.
A further object of provision of a razor strop holder, having means whereby the strop can be readily reversed to use either side thereof.
With the foregoing and other objects in View whichwill appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accomwherein:
. Figure 1 is aside elevation of the improved holder.
Fig. 2 is a section thereof on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3, with the strop rolled up.
Fig. 3 is a section on line with the strop withdrawn.
The casing which is preferably constructed of sheet metal, embodies the side plates 1, having the tapered extensions 2, and a plate 4 curved to fit the edges of the side plates 1. The ends of the-plate 3 are flush with the extensions 2, providing a mouth or opening 3 for the casing. Inorder to attach the plates together, the marginal portions of the plates 1 are provided with outturned flanges 5, and the edges of the plate 4: are bent back inwardly, as at 6, to embrace the flanges 5.
As a means for supporting the casing upon the arm of a barbers chair or from any other suitable support, a curved sup-- porting plate 7, fitting the plate 4 of the easing, is provided at its ends with bent back Specification of Letters JEatent.
lips s, fitting .3 of the casing in the direction the invention is the 3-3 of Fig. 1,-
,To use the strop,
ing, thereby winding up the spring 14', and
slidably upon the bent bac edge portion 6 of the plate 4, and the longitudinal side edges of the plate 7 are provided with flanges or lips 9 for attachment to the arm of a chairor other support. The curved portions 6 of the casing in engaging the supporting plate under lips or flanges 8, enables the casing to be adjusted rotatably about its axis, through about an angle of 180, to direct the mouth desired.
A drum or reel 10 is rotatable within the casing coaxial therewith, upon a spindle 11 in the casing and extending through the side plates 1, a retaining nut12 or other suitable retaining element being engaged to one end of the spindle 11 for holding it in place. The drum 10 is provided at its opposite end with a recess 13 in which a coiled torsional spring 14 is disposed, the innerend of the spring being engaged to the drum andthe outer end being secured to a disk 15 engaged non-rotatably with portion 16 of the spindle 11 which engages the respective side plate vent the spindle 11 and disk '15 from rotating.
The drum 10 is provided intermediate its ends with an annular roove 17 for I'GCBiV'. ing ashort strap 18 t at has one end se-. cured to the drum within the groove, as at 19. The strap 18 is just sufficiently long to extend from the drum out through the mouth or opening 3, as
for the attach 25 are mounted transhaving their terminals engaged with the extensions 2- The strop 22 passes between the rollers 25 in bong withdrawn an wound up. w
. When the strop is released, the spring 14, in rotating the drum 10, will wind the strop 0n the drum, so that the strop will be held within the casing. The strap 18 is wonn on the drum in the groove 17, so that the strop can wind promptly onto the drum. it is pulled from the ca swhen the strop is pulled out of thecasing,

the overhanging a non-circular of the casing to pre- I swiveled as at 21, to
' as S8911 ried by the side in Fig. 3, it can be either side thereof, but the strip 20 must be pulled into the casing.
' aving thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
1. A razor strop holder embodying a casingcomprising and t curved edges engaged to the edges 1- the side plates, a drum between and earplates, spring means for roe drum, and a supporting member avmg portions slidably engaging said edges of the plates. razor strop holder embodying a oasing comprising side plates and a curved plate having its edges bent back into engagement with the side plates to fasten them together, a drum etween and supported bythe side plates,
tating th razor strep holder embodying a casinghaving an opening, a ,pring' pressed drum mounted rotatably Within the casing,
. permitting the strop to be reversed When Withdrawn from the casing.
razor strop holder embodying a casing having an opening, a spring-pressed drum mounted within the casing, connected to the drum to move through said opening, and a strop swiveled to the end of the strap to be Wound upon the dru adapted to be reversed when With from the casing.
A razor ing having an opening, a drum mounted Within the connected to the drum to move spring pressed .asmg, a strap through said opening, a transverse strip swiveled between id strap, and a strep he Wound upon the its ends to the end of sa secured to said strip to drum.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto athxed my ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
