Description
n. CLAGE TT Improvement in Curtain Fixtures. No, 124,330, Patented March 5,1872.
l-I ll DAVID CLAGETT, or HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,330, dated March 5, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
/ Be it known that I, DAVID CLAGETT, of Ha- (gerstown, in the county of Vashington and State of Maryland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing tbrming a partof the same, and in which Figure 1 represents a front View of my improved curtain-fixture as applied to the curtai nroller, and a like view of a window and curtain. Fi 2 is a vertical section thereof taken through dotted line .10 x of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same through the dotted line y y of Fig. 2 and Fig. 4, a sectional View thereof through the dotted line 2 z of Fig. 3;
Similar letters of reference in the several figures are used in the designation of corresponding parts.
This invention has reference to an improvement in curtain-fixtures; and it consists of a bey'eled-toothed disk or plate, having its axle supplied with a coiled spring, in combination with a ball or oth er like round surface, the whole being properly incased, substantially as hereinafter more particularly referred to.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
In the annexed drawing, A refers to a disk or plate, which is supplied upon its periphery with a series of teeth or projections, a a a. The rear, or one side, of these projections orteeth is beveled or constructed with inclined planes,
while their front or opposite portions are made vertical or stepped, as shown in Fig. 2. This disk or plate is secured upon an axle, B, one end of which is fastened to roller 0 0f the curtain, and the other portion thereof supplied with a coiled spring, 1), suitably attached thereto, and inclosed by means of the case E, which is fastened to the side of the window-frame. Aroundthe opening in the case E, through any desired point, where it will be held, after having been released from the hand, by the ball II entering the recesses, or one of the same be tween the teeth or projections a a. of said disk. lVhen it is desired to raise the curtain, simply pull it down a short distance, when the ball or pawl II will be pushed into the tube or case G by the beveled portion of one of the teeth of the ratchet or disk A, and caused to remain therein, and consequently allow the said ratchet to become disengaged from said ball or pawl, which will allow the said ratchet to be rotated by in cans of its coiled spring D, and the curtain to be wound up upon its roller (J, attached to the rotating ratchet or toothed disk A. The case G is sufticiently inclined to throw he ball or pawl upon the ratchet A.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- l. The ratchet or toothed disk A and spring D, in combination with the ball or pawl H, arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The ratchet or toothed disk A, axle B, spring D, cases E F and G, and ball or pawl H, all combined and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 25th day of J uly, A. D. 1871, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
D AVID OLAGETT.
