Description

s. R. MORDEN.
soor REMOVER.
APPLICATION FILED "8.4.1911.
Patented Oct. 9, 1917.
WITNESSES STEPHEN RICHARD MORDEN, OF IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO.
soor-nnivrovnn.
Bonneville and State of Idaho, have invented an Improvement in Soot-Removers, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention is an improvement in soot removers, for fiues andthe like, and has for .itsobject to provide mechanism ofthe cl1ar- ,act'er specified, for removing the soot from a stove and flue, without injury to either,
and in an expeditious and thorough manner.
Inthe drawings: Figure 1 is a sectional view of a part of a stove showing the method of using the device. s I Fig. 2 is a section through the carton and the soot remover.
j Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 d3 ofFig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows adj acent to the line.
1 i Fig. a is a perspective view of the device removed from the carton.
1 comprises a length 1 of fuse, which is pro Yided at 1 intervals withcuts 2 of sufficient depth to open the bore of the fuse, in order l t hat when the fuse is lighted the fire may spitout from the opening.
An outer casing or jacket 4: of cloth is l provided in connection with the fuse, the said cloth being in the form of a strip which is wrapped about the fuse, and is secured to the fuse by means of lengths 5 of cord. fThi's cloth or jacket 4 is of enough greater cross section than the fuse to provide an annular space between the fuse and the jacket, and this space is divided into chambers or receptacles by the cords 5, before-mentioned, which are tied tightly about the cloth and the fuse. p
YVithin each of these chambers is arranged Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 4, 1917. Serial No. 159,642..
7 The present embodiment of the invention thoroughly Patented Oct. 9, 1917.
a supply of blasting powder indicated at 6, and it will be noticed that the cuts 2 in the fuse are at the centers of the chambers, the arrangement being such that when the fuse is lighted, the powder in the several chambers will be ignited successively.
It will be noticed from an inspection of Figs. 2 and 4 that one end of the fuse is eX- tended beyond the jacket 4, while the other end is well within the end of the jacket, and the com ileted device is arranged within a paper carton or container 7, with the eX- tendcd end of the fuse passing out through an opening in the top of the same. This extended end maybe ignited to set off the device, and directions for the use of the device, or advertising matter, may be printed on the carton directly or may be arranged on a label which is applied to the carton.-
In use, the stove 8, to be operated upon, is I provided with a goodfire, and with a cook stove the drafts are arranged as in baking.
The front draft is then closed, and a back stove lid is lifted. The extended end of the fuse is now lighted, and held in the hand unbehind the even, so that it will land just belowthe oven, and the lid is replaced. the packets of powder explode, the soot is removed from both flue and chimney.
I claim:
A device of the character specified, comprising a length of fuse, a tubular jacket encircling the fuse and forming an annular chamber between the fuse and the jacket,
said space being divided into separate chambers, and the said chambers containing an explosive, the fuse having cuts at the chambers extending into the bore of the same.
