Description

1.1. DUCK.
LOOM FASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 23, 1917.

INVE'N 'T'E' JOHN J'. DUCK, 0F TOLEDO, OHIO.
LOOM-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 9, 1917.
Application led March 23, 1917. Serial No. 156,933.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. DUCK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Loom-Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference. being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to loom fasteners, and is particularly intended for holding one or more non-metallic flexible looms in place at outlet boxes.
The object of my invention lis the provision of a simple and efficient means for use in connection with outlet and terminal boxes, or in other places where adapted, to secure Hexible insulating looms in position therein and to efectually prevent pulling away of the looms from the part or device from which the wire carrying the electric current is to be insulated.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while, in its broader aspect, it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms', a preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view of a wall or ceiling with a loom holding outlet box embodying the invention associated therewith.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the outlet box in inverted position with the loom fastening means associated therewith and holding a loom in position, and Fig. 3 is a top or inner side pers ective view of the outlet box with the wa projecting therefrom..
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a loom outlet box, which may be provided with a plurality of loom receiving openings 2, which openin desired be inimay 1f tially closed by f ockout blanks 3, as well engaging screws' understood in the art. The loom receiving openings 2 are provided around the central portion of the box 1 and are of suitable size to receive a flexible loom or insulating tube 4L through which the current carrying wire 5 is projected. 6 designates the customary fixture stud, which projects from the outer side of the box substantially centrally thereof and has feet 7 which may be secured to the box by screws or bolts 8, which may also project into the portion of the wall or ceiling 9 with which the loom box is associated to secure such box thereto.
The feature comprising my invention consists in securing a loom gripping plate or member 10 to the side of the box 1 to which the fixture stud 6 is attached, or to the side of the box in the direction of projection of the loom therethrough. The plate 10 is of spring metal and has one or both ends projected in restricting relation lto adjacent loom openings 2 and are bent outward on an. incline with respect to the box wall through which the openings are provided and notched to partially receive a loom when projected through one of said openings. The ends of the plate 10 form spring jaws which permit an insertion of a loom in one direction through the openings 2 with which the plate is associated but prevent pulling away of the looms from the box due to the engagement of the spring ends of the plate with the loom, as is apparent. It is evident that the plate 10 may be adapted to engage a loom or looms projected through anyl or all of the openings in an outlet box, and that the harder the outward pull on a loom to withdraw it from a box opening, the harder will be the gripping action of the plate end on the loom as the size of the opening will be greater restricted by the plate end as it is drawn inward toward the same.
I wish it understood that my inventionis not limited to any specific construction, arrangement or form of the parts, as it is capable of numerous modifications without departing from the spirit of the claim,
Having thus described my invention, art projecting transversely therefrom into what I claim as new, and desire to secure oom gripping relation to at least one of 10 by Letters Patent, issaid openings and serving to prevent with- The combination with an outlet box of drawal of a loom from the openingi 5 the class described having loom receivin In testimony whereof, I have ereunto openings therein and 'a fixture stud secur signed my name to this specification. to said box, of a plate of spring metal retained to the box by said stud and having a l JOHN J. DUCK.
