' which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to sewing machines, the object thereof being to provide a simple andi effective means for forming tapered suspender straps used in the manufacture of overalls, in which the edges are folded throughout their length and a rein-forced lining piece stitched within the folds at one end thereof.

I-Ieretofore straps of this kind were made on a single needle machine, first folding one edge of the strap and stitching it with the lining in place, then folding the opposite edge and completing the stitching, with the result that the straps were never uniform at the tapered portion, while the operation was slow and expensive. By means of the present improvement, however, the formation of these straps is very much simplified.

In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, Figure -11 is a' view of so much of a sewing machine as is necessary to illustrate my invention; Fig.

has pivotally secured thereto by means of a screw 11, a yoke l2, which is of arch form as at 13 and has a pair of depending portions 14, each carrying a presser foot 15 pivotally secured thereto as at 16 for rocking 'movement. `Each presser foot is provided with needle hole 17 for the passage of the needle 7. These presser feet coperate with suitable feeding mechanism (not shown) which may be arranged to correspond with the feeding movement of the presser feet. Se-

cured to the cloth plate by a bracket 20 and screws 21 is a folder 19'. This folder is of arch form and comprises -a body having spaced apart scrolls formed by bending the lower spaced edges of the body upwardly and loutwardly as at 24, and these bent edges of the body taper toward the delivery end of the folder. Secured on top of these bent portions 24 is a center piece or plate 22, having its edges curled as at 23 and terminating in the upwardly and outwardly bent portions 24 of the folder body. The body is also provided with' extending` overhanging portions 26 overhanging'- the center piece or plate 22 and spaced apart to forni a slot or open space 27 from end to end of the folder, and forming the guiding channels 25 for the'edges on the 'center plate 22, with thel reinforcing lining 29 underneath. The end' 30 ofthese two pieces may be folded under if Adesired to give a finished end. The strip 28 and lining 29 are then forced through the folder so that the outer edges of the strip pass downward into the channels 25 and into the scrolls 24, which turn the edges thereof as it is fed up to the stitching position.
