;-One of theobjects of the invention is the provision of. simple and reliable mechanism for insuring and effecting the rewinding of the typewriter ribbon, on a spool from which it has been unwound.
A further object is to provide a practical and durable device for guiding and controlling the ribbon intermediate the type carriers and printing point.

It is to be noted that the worm .or peaked cams 33 keyed to the driving shaft 22 are positioned in relatively opposite directions; that is, the hill of one cam is longitudinally in line with the valley of the other cam. By this arrz ngement injury isprevented in case the two pins 30 should simultaneously be in lower position. as when the ribbon is re-' moved, in which case the shaft would merely be vibrated longitudinally, when turned.

In a typewriting machine. in combinatioini'ibbon spools. ribbon shafts therefor, a longitudinally movable driving shaftadapted for selective connection with said ribbon 1 0 shafts, and means comprising peaked cams on said driving shaft and ribbon controlled means to engage therewith for effecting longitudinal. movement of said driving shaft, said cams being keyed to said shaft with their peaks on r, 'tively opposite sides thereof. d
