KEY-surmise ncnmn.
Be it known that I, Cnnmivn Tnnnno- Gin-No, a citizen of the United- States residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Cutting Machines and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to key cutting ma I chines.
The object of the invention is to providea key cutting machine of the type adapted for cutting keys for cylinder locks, which will be extremely simple in construction and lts manner of operation, and which will also possess other novel features of advantage and utility.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanylng drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a key cutting machine constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2, a side view of same;
Fig. 3, an end view of the machine;
Fig. 4, a section on the line 44 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5, a section on the line 55 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6, a perspective view of one end of the carriage which carries the form key and the key blank to be cut;
Fig. 7, a. perspective view of the stop which limits the cutting action of the machine, and
Fig. 8, a perspective view of the locking member which secures the cutter or file shaft in a desired longitudinal adjustment.
Referring to the drawings the improved machine is shown as comprising a base 10 from which rise terminal uprights l1 and 12, and an intermediate upright 13. The terminal uprights 11 and 12 have rotatably Specification of Letters-Patent. Application filed June 29, 1915. Seam... 3.7 0731.

mounted therein a file shaft 14, said file shaft. beingcapable of movement longitudinally in the uprights 11 and 12. Fixed on one endv of the shaft 14 is a pulley l5 having an extended hub; 16 provided with-a circumferential groove 17. Mounted on the pulley 15 is a handle 18 whereby the shaft 14 'may be rotated manually if ,desired. Threaded in the upright 12 is a binding screw 19 which extends through an elon- 7 One end of the plate 21 is provided with a laterally directed portion 22* which is engaged in the roove 17. By releasing the screw 19 it will be obvious that the shaft 14 can be adjusted longitudinally. By then tightening the screw 19 it will be obvious that the plate 21 can be locked against movement and as a result the shaft 14 will be positively locked against longitudinal movement until the screw 19 is again released. The upright 13 is provided with a transverse passage 23 in which is slidably mounted a stop gage 24, said gage being secured against sliding movement and in a desired adjustment by means of a binding screw 25 threaded in the upright 13. Adjustably mounted on the inner side of the upright'13 is an angle member 26 for a purpose that will presently appear. Fixed on the shaft 14 is a rotary file 27 the purpose of which will become presently apparent. Mounted on the shaft 14 is a frame A which includes end members 28 and 29, and side members 30 and 31, said side members being disposed on either side of the file 27. The side members 28 and 29 are provided respectively at their ends with inwardly directed portions 32 having formed therein grooves 33. Slidable in these grooves 33 are the end members 34 and 35 of a carriage B, said carriage also including side members 36 connecting the end members 34 and 35. Mounted on the upper side of the end member 34 through 1 of the carriage is 42. The blank key to be out is adapted to be clamped between the plate 41 and the member 85 in the same relation to the file 27 as the key form is to the stop gage. 2a.
In operation any suitable manner and the carriage moved relatively to the frame A ina direction to force the key blank against thefile 27. The cutting of the blank will then continue until the key form enga es the gage 24: When further movement of the carriage B is impossible. The carriage Bis then Withdrawn and the frame A moved longitudinally of the shaft let to bring the key form into proper relation to the stop gage 24C for the next cutting operation. The shaft l -t is then rotated and the carriage B moved as in the first instance and the cutting of the blank proceeded with until such movement arrested by the stop 24. This process is continued until the length of the key to be out has been entirely traversed.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Washington, D. G.
the shaft 14L is rotated in What is claimed is In a key cutting machine, the. combination of a base, a shaft rotatably mounted on the base, a cutterfixed on said shaft, an upright on the base, an adjustable gage stop mounted on the upright, spaced members slidably mounted on the shaft on both sides of the cutter, a carriage slidably mounted between the members in grooves therein for movement transversely of the shaft, means for clamping a key blank to be cut to the carriage on one side of the cutter, and means for clamping akey form to the carriage on the other side of the cutter in position for cooperation With the gage stop.
In testimony whereof, I afIiX my signature, in the presence of two Witnesses.
