lTo all whom t may Concern.' A
-Be it known that I, EDWARD C.FREMAUX, a citizen of the United States, "and a resident of Rayne, in the parish of Acadia and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Swing, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a swinghaving a chair frame pivoted along its center line to a foot frame, the chair and foot frames being supported by independent means, and the chair frame having slots at its side in which are disposed back supports which are pivoted to the chair frame below the seat, and which permit the seat to be reversed as desired. v
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the Jfollowing specication, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar reference characters denote similar parts in all the views, in whichf Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my invention;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the vswing illustrated in Fig.,1; and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective View illustrating another means by which the chair frame may be supported.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the swing is provided with a foot frame 5 having members 6 extending from front to rear, these members 6 being connected at .the front and rear by foot rests 7 The chair frame 8 is constructed with V-shaped frame members 9 at its sides, these V-shaped frame members 9 being connected by the seat 10. To the outer members 6 of the foot frame 5 there are secured the ends of a rod 11, the V-shaped frames 9 adjacent the angles formed by their members being pivoted to this rod 11, this means being provided for connecting the chair frame 8 with the foot frame 5'.
To the chair frame 8 there are secured anchor members 12, to which are vfastened the parts 13 of the support for the chair frame, these parts 13 being connected at 14, .and being disposed when the chair is at rest on a line which, if extended, would pass .substantially at equal distances from the upper portions of the V-shaped frames 9 in the direction of the rod 11. The support 13a which extends upwardly from the point 14, where its parts 13 are united, may be j Specification of IiettersiPatent.
yframe 15`at1 Y secured to a supporting. frame 15,lsuchlas lis 'shown in the drawings, ybut it will be Aunderstood thatany desired typev of supportingframe may be employed. #The -foot f-frame`5 is connected with the supporting .frame 15 lbymeans ofv rods E16, the lower ends of: which arearticulated .to the outer members 6 ofthe foot'framev at 17,; the' upper ends' being articulated to the supporting Y In the seat 10 there are the backs 21. The back supports 20 are articulated to the rod 11. It will be under-` lPatentedOie-t..I 2,
slots 19in which l' `are disposed back supports 20 which carry It will be understood that if desired the l back 21 may be made in one piece and that the arm rest 22 may be omitted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new Patent: l
1. In a swing, a foot frame, a V-shaped chair frame, a chair seat'for the chair frame, there being slots vin the chair frame adjacent the seat, 'a `back for the seat having supports disposed in the slots, and pivotal means connecting the foot frame with the back supports and the chair frame adjacent the angle formed by the V of the chair frame. T
2. In a swing, a foot frame, a chair frame pivoted to the foot frame, a chair seat for the chair frame,there being slots in the chair frame adjacent the seat, a back for the seat having supports disposed inthe slots and pivoted to the chair frame therebelow.'
3. In a swing, a foot frame, a chair frame having a seat, pivoted to the foot frame below a line substantially parallel with and and desire to secure by Letters equal distances from the front and back of the seat when the swing is at rest, independent means for supporting the foot framev slots and pivoted at the pivotal` connection of the foot frame and the chan1 frame.
4. In a swing, a foot frame, a V-shaped chair frame, a chair' seat for the chaii` iframe7 there being slots in the chair frame adjacent the seat7 a back for the seat having slipports disposed in the slots, pivotal means connecting the foot frame with the back supports and the chair frame adjacent the angle formed by the V of the chair frame, a rod pivoted to the foot fra-me and adapted tov be pivoted to a support7 and suppoiting vmeans secured to the chair frame, extending upwardly on a line which if extended Would pass through the pivotal means, and atV substantially equal distances from the upper' portionsvothe V-shaped frame.
5. In a swing, a foot frame, a chair' frame having,` a seat pivoted at its bottom to the foot frame, and a baek'for the seat pivoted to the foot frame and adapted to pass from the front to the back of the seat.
6. In a swing, a foot frame, a chair frame having a seat pivoted at its bottom to the foot frame, a back .for the seat pivoted to the foot frame and adapted to pass from the front to the back of the seat, means Afor supporting the chair frame, and means for supporting' the foot frame.
