. l'o all ywhom t may 'concern Be it known that I, C LUTHER BRowN,`a citizen of the United States, residing at Chandler, in the county ofy Lincoln andl State of Oklahoma, iave invented certain useful Improvemens 1n Tattlng Devices, of which the following 1s a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. l e n The present invention relates to a machine for use in tatting work, and is adapted to be used for tying knots and the likeV in a quick and eflicientmanner.
The present invention has for van `object to provide a machine or deviceof this nature which may be heldin one hand-and moved back and forth-around one side of a loop or thread to facilitate the tying of the thread inthe knot and to insure-the even` and uniform knotting of the same.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a device of this character which isrelatively light in weight, may be leconomically manufactured and which comprises but relatively few parts requiring no adjustment or attention.

The device is now drawn backwardly and the strand 25 passes between the prong 11 and the rear pointed end 17 of the shuttle and is guided thereby into the recess 13. When the device is drawn back to its fullest extent-the strand During this operation the strand 30 of the thread is carried by the shuttle V15 around-the strand 28 so as to form a knot or tie.
lt will be noted from Fig. 1 that this operation may be carried on rapidly and that the knotting ortying will be uniform and positive, so that the work produced will be of a neater and finer appearance than is possible to obtain without the useV of this device.v lt is of course understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the above specifically described construction, Without departing from the spirit of the invention, and only being restricted by the scope of the following claims.

A device as specified comprising a handle provided at one end with spaced apart prongs. a shuttle mounted on said prongs and having loose connection therewith to permit the passage of aV strand of thread around the shuttle between the prongs, a bobbin mounted for Arotation in said shuttle and adapted to carry a supply of thread, and a spring pressed pawl mounted on the shuttle for engagement with said bobbin to retard the rotation thereof, and having one end projecting upwardly for engagement with the finger to release said pawl at times for permitting the free drawing out of the thread.
4. A device asV specified comprising a handle having a longitudinal slot in one end, a shuttle mounted in said end and having inner and outer tapering ends, vmeans for carrying a supply of thread" for the shuttle, and a tension device on the shuttle to retard the feeding of said thread, said handle being adapted to be grasped and moved back and forth about one strand of a loop to twist the thread from the shuttle thereabout and direct said strand around the shuttle in said slotted end of the handle..
