Description

I JOHN B..- WILLIAMSON v Improvement in Automatic Fans; 124 103 y Jig. Patented Feb.27, 1872.

UNITED STATES J OHN B. WILLIAMSON, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN AUTOMATIC FANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,103, dated February 27, 1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Fan Mechanism, invented by JOHN B. WIL- LIAMSON, of Louisville, in the county of J efferson and State of Kentucky.
Figure 1 represents a side view of my im-- proved fan mechanism. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
A in the drawing represents the frame of the clock-work, made of suitable form, and provided with a train of gear-wheels, B, and a spring or weight, 0, for actuating the same. D is a wheel applied to the last shaft of the train and rotated by the same. It is a star shaped slot, (1 or groove, cut through or formed in its face. E is a lever, pivoted, by a pin, b, to the frame A, and carrying a little pin or roller, d, which enters the star-slot of the wheel D.
I prefer to cover the pin d with rubber. The
rotation of the latter serves to impart oscillating motion to the lever E. Whenever the roller 61 passes one of the angles of the starslot there is a momentary arrest, the escapement being thus produced. The stem F of the fan G is connected in suitable manner with the pin b or lever E, and is oscillated by the motion of the same.
The fan is to be used in hot weather either to produce the desired change of air or to chase away insects.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The fan G, arranged on a staff, F, in combination with vibrating lever E d, rotating and slotted wheel D a, and clock mechanism AB, as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN B. WILLIAMSON.
