BOILER ATTACHMENT.
Application filed March 10, 1917.
ments, of which the following is a specifica-- tion.
The present invention relates to improvements in attachments for boilers, the object being to produce a simple and effective device whereby jars and other such receptacles may be lowered to the bottom of the boiler while the boiling process is being carried on, and also having means associated therewith permitting the retention of the device above the water allowing the same to drain from the jars.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device of reticulated or foraminous material permitting the free agitation of the water while boiling.
Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention, should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, and wherein is disclosed, for the purpose of illustration, convenient and satisfactory embodiments of the invention. It is to be noted, in this connection, that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of the various parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a detail sectional view through a receptacle showing my device in elevated position, and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my invention, the supporting rods thereof being shown in elevated position.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.
My invention is particularly adapted for use with receptacles having bodies of considerable depth.
Referring now more particularly to Fig.
I 1, a receptacle or boiler designated 10 is of the standard form and provided with the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept 25 7,
Serial No. 154,003.
upper rolled edges 11. The tray member of my invention comprises a sheet metal plate member 12 provided with perforations. The outer edges are rolled as at 12 about a wire strand 14: which provides a reinforcing means. It is to be noted that the roll is provided on the upper face of the tray, thus providing a guarding means to prevent the jars 15 from slipping off the same when the tray member is removed entirely from the receptacle. A pair of apertures are arranged on the tray member adjacent the rolled edge on opposite sides thereof to receive the ends of inverted substantially U-shaped rod members 16. The ends of the rods are bent about the rolled portion of the edges of the tray into engagement with the upper face of the tray member, thus pro viding means for normally retaining the said rods in an upright position and limiting the inward movement of the same. Looped portions 17 are provided in the arms of the rod members to engage the upper edges of the receptacle and retain the tray in a raised position. While in this position it is obvious that the water is permitted to drain from the jars and the same may readily be removed therefrom. The upper portions of the rod members are provided with straight portions 18 forming handles.
It is to be noted that the ends 19 of the rod members in limiting, the inward movement of the same also causes the rods to automatically engage the sides of the receptacle when the same is being lowered or raised, but when it is desired that the tray reach the bottom of the receptacle a slight pressure exerted inwardly on the same will permit the tray to rest on the bottom thereof. I of course do not desire to limit myself to the particular use as set forth as the device may be as readily adapted to be used for many other purposes.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a device of the character described, the combination with a receptacle, of a tray member having a plurality of openings therein, the outer edges of said tray being rolled, a pair of resilient inverted substan tially U-shaped rods, portions of said rods being bent around the rolled edge of the tray and adapted to pivotally engage the ends of said rods forming stops against the 7 tray to limit the inwardmovernent ofsaid rods and to hold resiliently the looped portions thereof in position to engage the upper edge of the receptacle, and handle portions formed on said U-shaped rods Opp site the ends attached to the tray. W
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature "hereto.
