CLOTHES-BOILER.
Application filed. December 27, 1916. Serial No. 139,100.
Clothes-Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes boilers.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device adapted for boiling clothes arranged in a manner to permit of the bodily elevation of the clothes to the surface of the boiler whenever desired.
A further object of the device is to provide a clothes boiler having a supporting means for the clothes, the same being readily adjustable in height assisting in removing the clothes from the boiler, the said support being entirely removed and detached from the boiler when desired.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a view of the device partly in side elevation and partly in central longitudinal section.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of an end portion of the device.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional View of a lower end portion thereof.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken upon line IV-IV of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken upon line VV of Fig. 4:, and,
Fig. 6 is a perspective View of an end portion of the clothes support with the attaching means therefor.
The invention broadly consists of an elongated receptacle 10 of substantially the usual form of a wash boiler employed for laundry purposes, the same having an open top 11, a bottom 12 and projecting end handles 18.
An upright post 14 is provided in each end of the receptacle 10 having a central bore 15 within which a threaded shaft 16 is axially mounted, the upper end of the said shaft being journaled in a bracket 17 carried by the end of the receptacle while the lower end of the post is journaled within a socket 18 in the bottom of the bore 15 being retained in journaled arrangement by means of a screw 19 engaging Within an Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 11, 1917.
annular slot 20 at the lower end of the post and forming a swivel connection between the post and receptacle.
A clothes support or platform 21 is arranged for fitting within the receptacle 10, the same resting upon inwardly-extending lugs 22 when arranged at the lower cxtremity of its movement slightly spaced above the boiler bottom 12.
Arcuate recesses 23 are provided at the opposite ends of the support 21 adapted for positioning in a guiding manner around the post 1a as best illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. A clamp is pivoted in each of the recesses 23 consisting of two similar oppositely arranged socket members 21 and 25, both of the same being pivoted by a bolt 26 with a lug 27 centrally carried within the recess 23 upon the support 21. The two members 2 1 and 25 are adapted for surrounding the adjacent posts 16, arranged within the bore 15 and with the shank portions 28 of the clamp members slidably arranged within a slot 29 in the inner wall of the post. The clamp members 24: and 25 have threaded arcuate inner faces 30 for engaging the threads upon the adjacent shaft 16, the clamp members being retained -in engagement with the shaft by the sides of the slots 29. A socket 31 is arranged in the end of the clamp member 24: adapted to receive a spring-pressed pin 32 carried by the other clamp member 25 for assisting in retaining the said members in their shaft receiving arrangement.
Turn knobs 83 are arranged upon the upper ends of the shafts 16 whereby the latter are readily turned for feeding the support 21 either upwardly or downwardly as found desirable. When the boiler 10 is to be emptied of the clothes which are arranged upon the support 21, the latter is moved up wardly toward the top 11 thereof, difierent elevated positions of the support 21 being indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawing. When the support is elevated to a point above the boiler top 11, the recesses 23 leave the posts 14:, thereby permitting the clamps 24 and 25 to be manually separated, disconnecting them from the posts and permitting the support 21 to be transferred to any point desired with the clothes arranged thereon. YVhen the support 21 is arranged within the boiler, the turn knobs 83 may be moved for shifting the support 21 alternately up and down, forcing the fluid within the boiler through the perforations 3 1 thereof Which assists in cleaning thegolothes ar-w ranged within the device.
lVhat I claim as new 1s 1- 1. A device of the class described comprising a clothes receptacle; a perforated support shiftably arranged therein, threaded upright shafts journaled" adjacent the op said bores and the interior of the boiler;
threaded operating shafts journald axially within the said bores, a clothes support within the boiler having guide recesses within'which the said posts arepositioned; and
clamps carried by the'support projecting through the said slots in" threaded engage ment with the said shafts when the device is operatively arranged.
3. A device ofthe class described comprising a boiler, opposite posts arranged therein having axial bores and side slots a threaded shaft revolnbly arranged Within each of said bores, swiveling connections between the lower end of said shafts and said boiler, journaling brackets for the upper ends of said shafts carriedby the topv of the boiler and a clothes support shift- 7 ably arranged Withiiithe said boiler in operative engagement with the said shafts.
4;. A device I of the "classdescribed com prising a boiler; opposite posts arranged therein having aXial bores and side slots,
a thread ed shaft revolubly arranged within reach of sa d bores, swiveling connections: between the lower end of said sha-ftsand said boiler, journaling brackets for the up .per endsof. saidjshafts carried'by the top of the boiler a p erforated clothes support within the sa1d boiler having end recesses guidinglj arran'gedf upon, the said posts,-v
two-part clamps pivoted within the saidre cesses having threaded portions in operative engagement with the sald shafts whenthe clamps are closed.
lnte's timony whereof I my signature.
