1 Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. ARM- BRUsT, a citizen oftheUnited States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State'of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful "Improvement in Brake- Shoes, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the" accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to brake shoesand has for its object the provision of an improved back for brake shoes which has advantages in construction and cheapness in the manufacture thereof. I My invention contemplates in its preferred form the provision of a plurality of fingers preferably drawn from the material ofthe back, which fingers coeperate to form akeylug.

My invention herein, more particularly as relating to Figurest and 5 is a continuation in part of my prior application. Serial No. 79,237, filed Feb. 19, 1916.- p

- Referring more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, I show a blank having the body portion 1 froin which four fingers 2, 3, 4 and 5 are adapted tobe drawn to form the key lug as shown more clearly in Fig. 2. Openings 6 and 7 are left so that metal ofthe shoe provided with cooperating notches 9and 10 respectively which form the key slot. A transverse strip of metal 11 a proper union between the back and the shoe andin which the key lug is formed of two fingers 17 and 18 drawn transversely out of a portion of the metal of the back and from extending metal. Holes 19 are provided in the fingers to permit metal to pass therethrough for holding purposes. Having however thus described one form which my in vention may take, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A back for a brake shoe having a plurality of pairs of longitudinally extending straps of material stamped therefrom to form a holding lug for said back.

2. A back for abrake shoe provided with a double lug, said lug comprising four tongues, two tongues being drawn from each end to a point at or adjacent thecenter of said back. 1

3. A back for a brake shoe provided with four lugs, said lugs each being formed of tonguesdrawn from the ends of said back to a point adjacent the center of said back. i 1
