IMPROVEMENT lN CORSET-SPRINGS.

$in1ilar letters indicate corresponding parts. his invention relates to that class of corsetsprings in which is employed a mainspring provided with an auxiliary leaf and the invention consists in securing the secondary leaf upon the mainspring and by means of projecting teats or lugs located on each side of the central fastening clasp, the ends of the said secondary leaf being loosely confined between the end clasps so as to accommodate itself to the motions of the main leaf.

By these means the secondary leaf is prevented from being displaced, and, at the same time, its ends are left free to accommodate itself to the motions of the mainspring, and the mainspring retains its full strength, there being no perforations for rivets. The mainspring and auxiliary leaf may be made of any desired material; but, by preference the mainspring is made of highly-tempered steel, while the auxiliary leaf is made of some tough metal, such as hard rolled brass, which has a certain degree of elasticity, but which is not liable to break.
By combining the two leaves a b so that the leaf 1) will have its free ends arranged between clasps a spring is produced which combines superior elasticity, and which will permit the said secondary spring to accommodate itself to the movement of the Inainspring.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- As a new article of manufacture, the corsetspring, constructed as described, consisting of the mainspring a, auxiliary leaf b, projections d d, and clasps c c, all combined and operating as herein shown and set forth.
