To all whom zt may concern:

Be it known that I, ANDREW 'VVICKEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of East Chicago, county of Lake, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass-Guards", of which the following is declared to be a full. clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to eye glass guards, and has for its principal object to provide a guard capable of gripping the skin of the nose close to its upper end instead of gripping upon the bony or wider part of the nose. Another object is to provide a simple, substantial and practical guard capable of securely holding the lenses in position in front of the eyes. lVith these and other objects in view, this invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1, is a front elevation of a pair of eye glasses embodying a simple form of the present invention, showing the nose gripping end spread apart; Fig. 2, is a plan thereof, showing the nose gripping end in a position occupied when applied to a nose; Fig. 8, is a side elevation of the guard detached from the lenses; Fig. 4, is a vertical section taken on line H of Fig. 3; and Fig. 5, is a horizontal section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3. The views are upon an enlarged scale.

Referring to said drawing, A, B, designate the two lenses between which is the guard C. The lenses are secured to the guard by ears D. An eye glass guard embodying a simple form of my invention comprises two nose piece members 6, 7 pivotally connected together upon a vertical pivot,.and a saddle 8, also pivotally connected to the two members 6, 7 on a vertical pivot. Each nose piece member comprises a nose gripping end portion 9, which is concavo-convex in cross section, and formed with a number of small holes to facilitate the holding action. Beyond the nose gripping portion 9, the metal is extended clown- Ward to form a side piece 10. which has ears 11, 12, at the top and bottom that are bent at right angles to the side portion 10. two members 6, 7 may turn upon the common pivot in placing the guard upon the nose or removing it.

. The pivotal connection between the ears 11, may be formed by punching down the metal at the center of the ear to form a round lug or boss, 13, which enters a round hole formed in the ear 11, of the other nose gripping member. The pivotal connection between the ears 12, may comprise a screw 14:, extending through centrally located holes therein. Said screw 14, also'pivotally connects the saddle 8, with the nose gripping members.

Projecting from the lower end of each side piece 10, is a finger piece 15, which when the eye glasses are in use extends out over the noseand may be grasped by the user to hold the eye glasses and to place them on the nose or remove them therefrom. Each finger piece is formed with an outwardly pressed bead 16, extending length wise of the finger piece, said bead serving to strengthen the material and also to receive one arm of a coiled spring 17, the coils of which encircle the screw 14:. The two arms 18, extend out from the coil of the spring and rest in the hollows of the beads 16, wherein they are confined against displacement. If desired, the head 16, may be extended upward along the middle of each side member to reinforce it.

The saddle has a yoke-like portion 19, which straddles the nose of the user when in place on the nose, and it has a yoke-like member 20, arranged in a, plane lying at right angles to the plane of the yoke 19. The two arms of the member 20, straddle the ears 12, and coiled spring 17; and the screw 14, extends through holes in said arms and is threaded in one of them. The cross connecting member 21, of the yoke-like portion 19, is arranged to strike a ainst the adjacent edges of the side members, when the eye glasses have been adjusted to place on a persons nose, and thereby prevent swaying of the lenses upon the pivot between the two side pieces.

The ears D, are secured to the side pieces by screws 22, which pass through the side pieces and are threaded in the base portions of the ears.
