To all whom may concern:
Be it known that 1, Julianne l3. DILKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgcton, in the county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey have invented new and useful Improvements in liubbenlioot Repairers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to repairers espccially adapted to be used for applying soles to rubber boots, shoes and the like, and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated which is of simple and-durable structure and which may be easily and conveniently used for repairing boots and shoes of the character stated.
With the above objects in View the device includes a stand upon which is mounted a mold, and a boiler is connected with the mold and is adapted to discharge steam-into the same. Any suitable means as for in stance a gasolene burner may be provided for heating the boiler. During, the operation of repairing the boot or shoe a filler is inserted in the same and is expanded. The said filler constitutes a solid block or partition between the sole and upper portion of the boot and shoe and a clamping device is applied to the upper part or the shoe whereby the sole portion and the sole which is to be attached areheld firmly against the upper side of the mold. The sole is subjected to the heat from the mold and the cementing agent or material, which is interposed between the lower part of the shoe and the sole which is to be attached is vulcanized whereby the sole is permanently connected with the boot or shoe and the said article is efiiciently repaired.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side view of the device showing the mold in section.

The repairer comprises a stand 1 which is preferably of metal uudany suitable dimenscrew 10 is inserted in the heel sion. A hollow metallic mold 2 is mounted upon the stand 1 and the said hollow mold is provided with a COHOZLVQfl upper side 3. A boiler (of conventional type) is located below the mold Q'and the saidv boiler 1 is connected with the mold by means of a pipe 5. A burner 6 located below the boiler 1 and is connected by means pipe 7 with a tank 8 which may contain gasolenc or other liquid form of fuel.
The pressure last for the boot or shoe comprises a block 9 which is preferably formed oi two sections pivotally connected together there being provided wedged] shaped screw 10 for spreading the said sections With relation to each other. During the operation of cementing a sole to the lower part of a boot or shoe the said last is inserted in the same and the sections thereof are spread by turning the screw 10 and the knob 11 which is at the end' of the ortion of the shoe while the said block 9 1s inserted in the toe portion thereof. Thus the forward part of the boot or shoe is filled and a.
solid block or partition is inserted between the upper and lower sides of the shoe.
. It is to be understood that when the heel portion is repaired the sections of the block '9 may be extended so that they will fill the heel portion of the shoe. A plate 12 is adapted to be positioned over the upper surface of the shoe and is secured at its ends by means of bolts 13 to the top side of the mold 2. Set screws 15 pass transversely through the plate 12 and bear at their lower ends against clamps 16 which are applied to the shoe. The said clamps are composed of side sections which are adjustably connected together by means of screws or bolts 17 whereby the clamp may be caused to fit upon shoes of different sizes. One section of each clamp is provided with a flange 18 which extends over the upper end of the other section and the lower end of the screws 15 bear against the said flanges as best shown in Fig. 9..
In operation a cementing agent is applied to the lower surface of the boot or shoe and the sole which is to be attached to the boot or shoe is placed against the said cementing agent. The sole, which is indicated at 14 is then placed upon the concaved upper side 3 of the mold 2 and the last 9 is inserted in the boot or shoe. The
clamp 16 is then applied to the upper surface oi. the shoe and is secured to the mold by means of the set screws 15. The burner (3 is then ignited and the water in the boiler l is converted into steam which passes up through the pipe 5 into the mold 2 and heats the same. The heat from the concaved side8 of the mold 2' softens the ce mcnting agent and the sole 14 is caused to adhere to thevlower portion of the boot or shoe and is vulcanized in position thereon. After the sole has set with relation to the body 01 the boot or shoe the said boot or shoe is removed from the mold 2, and the sole is trimmed in the usual manner.
From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that a device of simple and durable structure is provided and that the same may be conveniently and econonncall-y used for repairing rubber boots or shoes and that the soles areapphed to the said articles in an eflicient'manner whereb they are repaired and rendered Water proo Having described the invention what is claimed is g 1.
