IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,832, dated February 20, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Folding-Chairs, invented by CHARLES INIARCHER, of New York city, in the county and State of New York.
The object of this invention is to so construct a chair that it may be folded up so as to occupy but little space when it is not in use, or when packed for transportation or storing away; and it consists in the general arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing, Figure l is a side elevation of the chair extended. Fig. 2 is a back View. Fig. 3 is a side vieu7 of the chair folded up. Fig. 4 is a top View, showing the seat broken away to give a view of the track and traverse- Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the seat. B is the back; C, the front legs. D are the rear legs. The back and the front leg-pieces for each side of the chair are in one piece, and are pivoted to the rear legs at the point E. F is a track of metal or other suitable material, which is rigidly attached to each side of the seat, as seen in Fig. l. G is a metallic plate, which is rigidly attached to the upper ends of each of the rea-r legs, having a pin, I, projecting inward, so as to bear and traverse on the track when the chair is folded up or extended for use. J is a shoulder, which forms a stop for the traverse-pin I when the chair is extended. The bottom A is pivot-ed to the lower part of the back at the point K. L represents the arms of the cha-ir, which arc pivoted to the seat at the point N. O is a slot in the arms. I3 is a pin in the back B, on which the slotted arm works as the chair is folded or extended. Then the chair is extended for use, the front of the seat rests on the ends of the rear legs, but it is held in position by the shoulder J and pin I.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters PatentrIhe combination of the seat A, back B, legs G D, track F, pins I, shoulders J J, and varms L, with the pivots by which the parts are connected together, substantially as and for the purposes herein shown and described.
