Specification of Letters Patent. Patented ihug, 21, 19117.
Application filed February 16, 1915. Serial No, 8,593.
T0 at whom it may concern: 1
. Be it known that 1, Finalize n01; 1-1. Mc- Dnvrr'r, a citizen of the United States, and resident of YVinthrop, county of tjuflolk, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented an IIXIPIOVGDIOHZ in Filling-Feeler Devices for Looms, of whiclrthe following description, in connection with the acco1npanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts in each of the several views.
The invention has relation to filling feeler devices of the class employing a slotted bobbin, and is applicable in those cases in which the loom shuttles that are employed are furnished with spindles on which the fillingbobbins are mounted for the weaving operation. The object of the invention is to provide simple, efficient, and inexpensive means of causing the lateral slot of a bobbin to register properly with the feeler slot in the front wall of the shuttle when the bobbin is in place within the shuttle. The invention consists, essentially, in cooperative means in connection with the shuttle spindle and bobbin for holding the bobbin on the spindle with its feeler-slot in register with that of the shuttle.
The invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and will be thereafter pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a shuttle with a bobbin therein with my invention embodied in connection therewith, a fragment of a feeler member being also indicated;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the shuttle with its spindle, a part of the shuttle body being broken away to better show a feature of the invention;
Fig. 3 shows in side elevation a bobbin constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged end view thereof looking at the head of the bobbin;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged transverse section on line 5-5 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary section on line 66 feeling end of a feeler 11 enters as the lay beats up with the shuttle in the shuttle-box atthe side of the loom at which the feelcr is located. The bobbin is formed near its head with the lateral feeier-slot 16. In order that when the bobbin is in working position on the spindle 11 the slot 16 shall be in alineinent with the feeler-slot 13 and the feeler 11 as the latter enters theretl'lrough the head of the bobbin 15 is provided with a transverse slot 1'? adapted to receive a pin 18 projecting transversely from the spindle 11 near the back thereof. This pin is so mounted on the spindle, and the slot 17 is so formed with reference to the slot 16, that the bobbin will, in all cases when in working position on the spindle with the pin 18 engaging the notch 17, be positioned so that the slot 16 will be in alinelnent with the feeler; thus while for the bobbin shown the pin 18 would be upright on the spindle, for left hand shuttles, the pin would be posi tioned'underneath the spindle as indicated at 18. In this way all the bobbins may be made uniform, with the slots 16 and 17 therein relatively positioned exactly the same in all cases, and as regards the shuttles, the only differential requirement is that for right hand shuttles the pins 18 should extend from one side thereof, while for left hand shuttles such pins should extend in the opposite direction. I preferably equip the head of the bobbin with a metallic ferrule 19 turned over the end of the bobbin as seen at 20 and the slot 17 can be conveniently cut in said ferrule which latter is adapted to preserve the outline of the slot intact. I do not desire to be limited to the precise details of construction herein shown which are to be considered as illustrative and not restrictive and I therefore refer to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a shuttle having a spindle therein and a bobbin equipped with a lengthwise extending lateral slot adapted to be fitted on said spindle, of cooperative means on the bobbin and spindle adapted to locate said slot in a definite angular position with reference to the shuttle.
2. The combination with a shuttle having a spindle hinged therein and a bobbin havbobbin for holding the bobbin in a definite angular position on the spindle for, the purpose stated, said means consisting in a transverse pin and slot, one on the spindle and the other on the. bobbin.
3. The combination With a shuttle having a spindle hinged therein and' a' lengthwise extending feeler receiving opening in its side, and a bobbin having a lengthwise-extending slot near itshead, of means for holding said bobbin-sothat said lengthwise extending slot is alined With said feeler 're- -ceiv1ng opening of the shuttle, said-means consisting in a transverse slot at the head of the bobbin, and atransverse P111 on the spln- (lle adapted to engage in said slot.
dle \v.;i=th a lengthwise extending slot near its head, of cooperative means on the bobbin and spindle itonholding the bobbin on the spindle With its lengthwise extending slot in alinementwith 'said"feeler receiving opening of the shuttle.
In testimony whereof, Ihave signedmy name to this specification; in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
