Be it known that I, FRANK M; PIERCE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain 'ings, and to the numerals of reference "marked thereon, which form a part of this specification my co-pending application. for double wrapper wrapping machines, filed No vember 26th, 1915, SerialNo. 63,502.
This invention relates to an automatic guiding or centralizing .means for articles such as annular objects, particularly coils of wire or tires, placed in a wrapping machine which are automatically adjustable for arti- Ito's an object therefore of this invention to provide a guiding and centralizing device automatically adjustable for articles of different size to maintain the same properly positioned in the wrapping machine during a wrapping operation.
It is furthermore an important object of this invention toconstruct a pivotally mounted counterweighted guiding and centralizing means for an article being wrapped in a wrapping-machine which is automaticallyadjustable for difierent articles and as ingmechanism for an article in a wrapping This invention constitutes a division of- Specification oi Letters- Patent. As shown in'the drawings The frame of the wrapping machine is denoted as a whole bv the reference numeral 1, and is providcduvith an arched cross member 2, at the upper end thereof. The frame '1, is provided with upright guide rods or posts 3, on which brackets 4, are shdably mounted for vertical adjustment, and journaled in said brackets are supporting and driving rollers 5, upon which an article 6, such as a tire, coil of wire, or other annular object, is placed and supported for wrap ping. The details of construction and operation of the mechanisms by which the tire or other object is su-pported'and adjusted,-
are not entered into further than the brief description in the foregoing.

As clearly shown in Figs. 2 and '5, the upper surface of the rear end of said lever 16, is provided with a series of notches denoted by the reference numeral 23,- which are formed in a central longitudinal rib on the surface of said lever, and a weight 24, having upwardly directed wing extensions 25, is adapted to be suspended on said lever by means of a--pin 26, engaging through said wing extensions of the weight and seating in. one of the notches 23, or" the lever. Said; weight is provided with a forwardly directed projection or extension. 27, which bears upwardly beneath the under surface of said lever 16, to brace the weight in its attached position on saidlever.
In operation, the rollers 1i, rest upon the periphery of the article 6, being wrapped, and, due to the weight 24 attached on the lever on which said rollers, are mounted, the same are brought to bear with a predetermined pressureupon the peripheryof the object. 'Due to the angled relation of said rollers, they engage. not only on the extreme outer periphery of the object, but.

Ina device of the class described, a pivotally. mounted bracket, a roller rotatably mounted thereon adapted tobear on the article being wrapped, rollers rotatablv mounted on the bracket angularlv directed with respect to the aforesaid roller to engage the article wrapped thercbetween, and adjustable means for varying the pressnrr of the rollers on the article wrapped.

In a wrapping machine of the clas d scribed, a centralizing and guiding device therefor comprising a pivoted lever. adustable weighted means suspended therefrom for varying the gravitational ellw't on said lever, rollers on the outer end of said lever, and means limitingthe downward movement of said lever.
