To all whom it mag concern:

'Be it known that I, MICHAEL F. IMnorF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bakersfield, in the county of Kern and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hams-Hooks; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. l i

This invention relates to a hame hook and y l A slot which *opens outwa'rdly of oneend has for one of its objects the provisionof means whereby the hook may be readily applied and detached from a hame when desired without the use of a tool or specially constructed instrument.

Another object of this invention is to provide a body portion attached to a trace and having a pair of hooks formed on one end thereof to engage the staple of a hame and held thereon by a locking member on the body portion, whereby the hooks are prevented from becoming accidentally detached from the hame, and also obviating the clan ger of the hooks becoming caught in other portions of the harness, or becoming caught in the harness of the next adjacent draft animal, thus rendering it impossible for the draft animals becoming locked together which frequently occurs by hooks now in use.

A further object of this invention is to provide a hame hook of the above stated character which shall be simple, durable and eficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds the invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my in vention, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings in which:

The arms 5 adjacent the hooks 6 .are provided with cutaway portions 7 in communication with the slot 4 to receive an extension 8 formed on a locking member 9. The extension 8 is provided with a transverse opening to receive a cotter pin 10 or like fastener for securing the extension within the cutaway portions 7 of-the arms 5. The cutaway portions 7 present shoulders upon the arms to engage each end of the extension 8 and prevent the 7 same from sliding within the slot l. The

face of the locking member 9 is beveled as illustrated at 12 to present an inclined face which will prevent the locking member 12 from being caught within the hame or any other part of the harness used upon a draft harness. I

The body 3 may be attached to any well known type of trace, but to better illustrate my invention I have illustrated the body 3 connected with a trace of the chain type.

The end link of the chain trace is fitted within the slot 4 and works against the closed end of'the body which is rounded as illustrated at 13 to prevent said link from becoming caught on the end of the body.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing. it will be noted a hame hook has been provided which may be readily applied to either the-right or left hame of a harness and also maybe used with various types of traces and always maintain a fiat position upon-the lie construction, combination arrangement of parts may be made Without departing fromathe s irit andseope of the. inv n ion as claimed.
